Star of 1990s indie teen classic dies at age 54

BURBANK, California — Nicky Katt, a character actor who had memorable roles in movies such as “Dazed and Confused” and the TV show “Boston Public,” has died at the age of 54, according to multiple reports.
Variety reports Katt’s lawyer confirmed his death, which occurred on April 8. No cause of death has been reported.
Katt had a long resume, dating all the way to 1980 when he appeared in an episode of “Fantasy Island,” according to IMDB. His first credited movie role was in 1984 in “Gremlins.”
He had small roles in several other movies and television shows before landing the part of Clint Bruno in 1993’s “Dazed and Confused,” which included up-and-coming stars Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey and Milla Jovovich.
His other movie credits include “A Time to Kill,” “Batman and Robin,” “Boiler Room,” “Full Frontal,” “School of Rock,” and “Sin City.” Variety reports Katt often was cast as “heavies and villains.”
“I’ve definitely gone through streaks where that’s all that people wanted me to play, the bad guy, especially after ‘Dazed and Confused,‘” Katt said in 2008, according to Entertainment Weekly. “But I’ve been really lucky because I get to play all different types of guys.”
He also starred in the TV series “Boston Public” as Harry Senate from 2000 to 2002. His last appearance was in 2018 in the TV show “Casual.”
