Stephen Fry on why he and husband Elliott have shunned spotlight for six years
Stephen Fry and his husband, Elliott Spencer, have been married since 2015 but keep their romance firmly out of the spotlight
Stephen Fry has opened up about why he and his husband Elliott Spencer have been keeping a low profile, as the pair haven't been snapped together in public for six years.
The 67-year-old telly legend, who tied the knot with 36-year-old Elliott back in January 2015, has kept their romance away from the limelight.
Since their wedding, sightings of the couple out and about have been few and far between and they have steered clear of the public eye except for the odd film premiere or awards bash. In fact, it's been a whole six years since they were last spotted at a public event together, reports the Mirror.
Now, Stephen has given fans a rare peek into his private life while chatting about how he landed the gig hosting the UK edition of the legendary US quiz show Jeopardy! He took over the quizmaster role in January last year and can now be seen presenting the second series.
During a conversation about how he got the role on the show, Stephen let slip some details about his personal life on The Jonathan Ross Show, set to be broadcast on Saturday evening: "I was on The Morning Show [in the US].
"I had dinner with my American agent, he said, 'What do you do when you're not called on set?' and I said, 'My husband and I, we don't go to Hollywood parties much, we have an early supper, watch Jeopardy! go to bed'. He said, 'Do you watch it in the UK?', I said, 'We don't have it in the UK'. The conversation moved on, I thought no more of it. Two weeks later, he phones and says: 'ITV London is thrilled you're going to do Jeopardy!'"

Earlier this year, Stephen publicly expressed his affection for his husband on social media by posting an old snapshot from their wedding day, alongside the heartfelt words: "Ten happy years to the day since we were joined in marriage. I'm a lucky man."
In 2022, talking to the Brave New World podcast, Stephen pondered over his future, revealing why the prospect of living past 100 did not appeal to him.
He emphatically stated: "Personally, I'm not particularly interested in longevity for myself. I'm interested, as I think most people are, in the idea of an old age that is as pain-free as possible and where there isn't too much cognitive loss.
"But I am not someone who wants to live longer than the rest of my friends... If everybody – my family and friends – lived into their 120s, then maybe I'd be quite happy to pass 100. But as it is, I would hate to be that lonely Flying Dutchman figure so beloved of history... The survivor, all of whose dependents and acquaintances have since died. I would find that deeply upsetting."
