Strictly's Wynne Evans apologises for 'inappropriate' remark during tour launch
Wynne Evans, who is currently on the Strictly Come Dancing live tour, has apologised after he was heard making an "inappropriate and unacceptable" remark during the launch event
Wynne Evans has issued an apology after making an "inappropriate and unacceptable" comment at the Strictly Come Dancing live tour launch.
The 52-year-old Welsh opera star, famed for his role in Go Compare adverts, is part of this year's touring ensemble following his stint on the BBC One show with professional partner Katya Jones.
Although he had to sit out from the Glasgow performance on Saturday due to an injury to his ankle, Evans is hopeful to make a comeback to the dance floor shortly.
According to The Mail on Sunday, Evan's indiscretion was captured in a video during the January 16 event, where he can be heard directing the comment at a woman. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter
Tour producers have reportedly warned Evans about his language, as confirmed by PA news agency. Evans expressed regret in a statement: "My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise."
Swiftly responding, a spokesman for the Strictly live tour and BBC Studios stated they were unaware of the incident, having received no complaints, but emphasised their zero-tolerance approach towards such conduct on the tour.
On Instagram, Evans shared visuals of his injured ankle and later updated fans about his condition on Saturday saying in a video: "Ankle's getting a bit better, it was great to be able to sing in Glasgow tonight, even if I couldn't dance, hopefully back tomorrow."
He promised further updates adding, "But watch this space, I'll let you know in the morning. See how the swelling goes down, and all that kind of stuff, thanks for all the lovely messages, amazing."

Whilst the show on Saturday continued as scheduled, it is anticipated that the Sunday slot at the OVO Hydro Glasgow will proceed without hitch.
The tour is set to move next to the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool for shows on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by the First Direct Arena Leeds taking centre stage on Thursday and Friday.
Back in October, Evans and Jones found themselves having to apologise for a "joke" that involved her guiding Evans' hand away from her waist during the BBC programme.
In a separate incident, Jones seemed reluctant to high-five her celebrity dance partner, an interaction they later described as "a running joke". Last year, following a review prompted by contestant complaints, Strictly instated chaperones during rehearsals.
Evans, who also hosts BBC Radio Wales, dazzled in the 25th anniversary production of The Phantom Of The Opera, and took home the title of 2023's Celebrity MasterChef champion. His Strictly journey concluded during last year's Blackpool week.
