Suits LA: Everything We Know About the New Spinoff
Suits LA is a Hollywood legal drama spinoff led by Stephen Amell as Ted Black, featuring surprising cast cameos and intriguing twists.
Once upon a time, Harvey Specter stated, “Anyone can do my job, but no one can be me.” However, unlike Harvey, whose firm operated among East Coast skyscrapers, “Suits LA” and Harvey’s predecessor will be taking on a much different clientele: Hollywood. According to NBC, the spinoff will take place in the same universe as the original 2011 show, but with new faces and new places and a brand new firm led by former “Arrow” star Stephen Amell, who will be suiting up(no pun intended) as Ted Black.
According to People, an open invitation has been extended to Meghan Markle to step back into the role of Rachel Zane. On February 20th, while at the premiere of the show’s spinoff, “Suits” creator Aaron Korhs spoke about the possibility of Meghan returning following her exit from the show back in 2018.
“Obviously, if Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back.” While the likelihood of seeing the Duchess of Sussex return is slim to none, The Hollywood Reporter states that isn’t the case for everyone. In fact, it’s been confirmed that Match himself will appear in three of the thirteen episodes.
Other actors, such as Gina Torres, who portrayed Jessica Pearson, have expressed interest in appearing in the show. For now, fans of the original cast will have to wait and see.
Possible cameos? Check. Sharp dialogue, witty rebuttals, and ruthless lawyers dressed in perfectly tailored suits? Double check. But what else is in store for the much-anticipated spin-off? The Hollywood Reporter also reports that “Suits LA” will be dipping into Harvey’s past via Ted Black. You don’t need to know the history or have watched the original “Suits” per se, all you need to know is that in the second episode, Ted’s friend Kevin describes Harvey as “the only person I know cockier than Ted.”
While there might be similarities between former co-workers Harvey and Ted, fans shouldn’t expect the same one-two punch the original had. Instead, Korsh put his faith in Amell as the series lead, who will be joined by a cast of regulars, including Lex Scott Davis and Bryan Greenberg, along with criminal defense partner Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt).
To spice things up, fans can expect another big secret to lie with Ted as the story unfolds across two timelines as Hollywood’s biggest lawyer is haunted by his tainted past as a federal prosecutor.
“Suits LA” premieres Sunday, Feb. 23 at 9 p.m. on NBC and will be available for streaming the next day via Peacock.
