Authorities in Shanghai have been holding 'preliminary talks with Swift's team in hopes of getting her to perform in the metropolis, a city official told the Chinese outlet The Paper on Tuesday, via Reuters.
The news came as a shock to many devoted Swifties, as most assumed Taylor, 35, would be taking significant time off after wrapping up her blockbuster Eras tour in Canada in early December.
She concluded with a three-night run in Vancouver after a whirlwind run of 149 concerts held on five continents from March 2023 to the end of 2024.
'Now this right here is GLOBAL impact!' enthused one fan on X (formerly Twitter) after news of the alleged talks broke.
Swift — who recently unveiled plans for a $1.7 million renovation to her Rhode Island mansion — notably didn't have any Eras Tour stops in China, despite playing multiple shows in Japan and Singapore.

She'll likely be received with open arms if a deal is struck for Shanghai shows, as Swift is massively popular throughout China.
Zhang Qi, the deputy director of Shanghai's culture and tourism bureau, told The Paper that he and other city authorities had participated in meetings with the singer's team to discuss the possibility of new shows.
'As for whether it can take place in the end, we feel that it will have to depend on the market and the attractiveness of the city of Shanghai,' he said. 'But we are optimistic that there may be hope this year.'

Shanghai, which is a major financial hub, is the most populous city in China with 24.2 million residents, but the nation has numerous other enormous cities that would likely be happy to host multiple Taylor Swift concerts.
Her Eras Tour became the first tour to earn over $1 billion in revenue, and it ultimately grossed over $2 billion total.
The concerts reportedly had significant economic benefits to the cities where they were held, as fans flocked there for the shows and perused local businesses while in town.
On X, several fans pointed out just how popular Swift is in China after reports of the Shanghai talks broke.

If the Shake It Off singer does end up putting on concerts in Shanghai or elsewhere in China, it's unclear if they would simply be an extension of her long-running Eras Tour, or if they would have different branding.
Fans were curious, with one wondering if she was 'bring back the eras tour.'
