Taylor Swift's style has been mostly consistent throughout her career, but it's changed a lot lately. Is Travis Kelce to blame? Let's do a deep dive.

The way that Swifties meticulously analyze Taylor Swift's outfits and decode their possible meanings is becoming an art in itself. In the fandom's defense, they aren't overthinking it: Taylor Swift does hand out hints and tell stories through her fashion choices more than any other celebrity, dropping easter eggs and red herrings for her loyal fans to work out. The latest chapter in Swiftie speculations relates to the seemingly new style T-Swift has been wearing to NFL games in 2025, where she's been supporting beau and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

While Swift's fashion sense evolves with each new era she embarks on, she's previously been known for an authentic and accessible look that often screams "old money," with "Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras" author Sarah Chapelle positing that the superstar does some of her own shopping and wears pieces that are close to her heart — in addition to those laid out by her stylists, of course (via Glamour). But fans noticed a stark change in January, when Swift turned up to several games clad in designer gear from head to toe. (And don't get us started on how Taylor Swift's steamy 2025 Grammys outfit was a nod to Travis Kelce, too.) All of this to say: Some are wondering whether the icon's new tune really comes down to impressing Kelce.

"This is Travis's fault, I'm sorry," one super-fan said on TikTok. "I feel like it's a very 'bro culture' thing to be super into labels specifically, and Taylor decided, 'Let me have a go at that." This observation referred to an all-Gucci 'fit the "Lover" singer rocked while on a 2024 date with Kelce, but she's served even more labels since then, only fueling this hypothesis. To kick off the new year, Taylor Swift was seen looking starkly different from fellow WAG Brittany Mahomes in a game-day outfit that featured head-to-toe Louis Vuitton, along with another look that saw her adorned in Chanel.
Is Taylor Swift in her Reputation (Taylor's Version) era?
While we have no hard evidence that Travis Kelce is motivating Taylor Swift's new logomania energy, the theory is hard to disprove. "You can't really analyze her looks within an isolated bubble," Sarah Chapelle explains to Glamour. "You need to understand where she is and why she's there." If this thinking is true, then Swift's outfits could well be inspired by her man, as she's wearing them to support him at his Kansas City Chiefs games. However, other theories aren't necessarily off the table. Back in September 2024, Taylor Swift arrived to support Kelce wearing a corset and thigh-high boots, and this game-day look had fans all saying the same thing: Taylor Swift was gearing up for an announcement in relation to her upcoming "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" album that doesn't yet have a release date. You'll have to use your imagination, but it's possible that her latest escapades into high fashion are for the same purpose.

We know that Swift's original "Reputation" era in 2017 featured dark, edgy pieces finished off with high boots, statement heels, and bold accessories. And to the aforementioned Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills game on January 26, the star was certainly looking edgier than usual in her moody, dark-toned Louis Vuitton ensemble. This was after the play-off game between the Chiefs and the Houston Texans on January 18, where Swift went for another mostly black Chanel look. While she did wear a check coat that seemed more "Tortured Poets Department" than "Reputation," there was no mistaking the leather gloves and bold accessories, including knee-high boots (one of the boot trends we argue that women over 40 should keep rocking) and sizable Chanel belt. Maybe we're seeing things that aren't there, but maybe these 'fits are less about Kelce and more about an upcoming musical announcement.

Is Taylor Swift just superstitious?
Of course, there's also the chance that Taylor Swift's recent style change is purely motivated by superstition. Fans on social media noted that the Louis Vuitton skirt that Swift wore to the January 26 game was actually a recycled piece. In particular, it appeared to be the same skirt that she wore to the AFC Championship game in 2024, where the Kansas City Chiefs came out on top of the Baltimore Ravens. Fans also noted that Swift wore her hair with some body on both occasions — curled to the 2024 game and waved to the 2025 game — which is perhaps another sign that she's reaching for the same looks in hopes that history will repeat itself.

The Pennsylvania-born superstar has admitted that she holds certain beliefs related to good luck. "I turned 13 on Friday the 13th," she told MTV News (via People) while discussing her favorite number. "My first album went gold in 13 weeks. My first No. 1 song had a 13-second intro. Every time I've won an award I've been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section or row M, which is the 13th letter. Basically, whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it's a good thing."
To be perfectly frank, we have no official confirmation that any of these conjectures about Swift's outfit motivations are the real deal. But true or not, the Swiftie fandom will certainly be waiting with bated breath to see if the "Anti-Hero" singer's next look fits into their theories — and we'd wager that's exactly what Tay-Tay wants.
