The 10-episode series returns April 10
Hacks will makes its return for its fourth season April 10. In the trailer, released Tuesday, tensions run high between Jean Smartâs seasoned comic Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinderâs comedy writer Ava. The friction is palpable as Deborah and Ava walk down a corridor in the trailer in their (spoiler alert!) new roles: Deborah is a late-night talk show host, and Ava is the head writer on the show.
âArenât you a big brave girl?â Deborah says in the trailer.
âI guess I am,â Ava quips.
The fourth season follows the Deborah and Ava as they attempt to get their late-night show off the ground and make history in the process. In Season Threeâs final episodes, the seventysomething comedy giant lands the late-night role, a gig thatâs she yearned for since her early days in comedy, and walks back her offer to Ava as the head writer of the show. In response, Ava blackmails her former employer, and gets the writing gig back. Itâs not the duoâs first cat fight. By the end of Season Two, Deborah flat-out fires Ava, forcing her to explore new opportunities and create a new identity for herself. In the 10-episode fourth season, stars including Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato, Rose Abdoo, Dan Bucatinsky, Helen Hunt, Tony Goldwyn, and Kaitlin Olson make the casting list.
Described as one of the âmost beloved comedies in recent years,â Hacks took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Series in the Musical or Comedy category earlier this year, beating out the frontrunner, The Bear. Hacks previously won the top prize in 2022. Smartâs performance as the comedic legend also won the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy Show. The series also won three Emmys in 2024, including Best Comedy Series.
