Texas politician removed during Trump speech as Democrats stage protest
The veteran Texas politician was forcibly removed after voicing opposition to Trump
Democratic representative Al Green was removed from the House floor on Tuesday for standing in protest of Donald Trumpâs joint congressional address.
The 77-year-old veteran politician told the US President he has no mandate as Democrats protested throughout Trumpâs speech to Congress.
âThe presidential election of November 5th, was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades. We won all seven swing states, giving us an electoral college victory of 312 votes,â Trump claimed, even though he got less than 50% of Americaâs popular vote.
As Mr Green challenged Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson demanded that the representatives calm down before ordering staff to forcibly remove Mr Green from the room in chaotic scenes.
Mr Green, who represents Texasâs 9th District, has been a staunch critic of Trump since he first became president and has called for his impeachment.
Speaking to reporters following the incident, Mr Green said he wanted the American people to know that some politicians are standing up to Trump.
âItâs worth it to let people know that there are some people who are going to stand up,â he said.

Mr Greenâs protest came as the divisive 78-year-old Republican leader addressed Congress for the first time since returning to power 43 days earlier.
During his almost two-hour speech, Trump shunned the traditional calls for unity and instead revelled in the dramatic first few months in office while firmly criticising Democrats and âwokeness.â
Since becoming president, Trump has attempted to rapidly gut government processes with the help of unelected billionaire Elon Musk, which has rattled a number of politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Despite this, the outspoken president claimed that he had the mandate of the American people to do so.

A number of Democrats also held up signs saying âMusk stealsâ, âSave Medicaid,â and âFalseâ as they attempted to challenge the president and his controversial inner circle.
Melanie Stansbury also held up a sign reading âThis is not normalâ before it was snatched out of her hand by Texan Rep. Lance Gooden.
