The Au Pair viewers call out Channel 5 show 'blunder'
Channel 5 series The Au Pair airs nightly and viewers have been keen to share their views on the show
Viewers of the new Channel 5 drama The Au Pair all pointed out a blunder during its second episode. The new series follows seamstress Zoe Dalton (Sally Bretton), a woman who seems to have it all, including a successful husband Chris (Kenny Doughty), two adorable stepchildren, a thriving tailoring business, and a gorgeous countryside home in a picturesque English town.
They bring in a new au pair called Sandrine (Ludmilla Makowski) who helps look after Zoe's elderly father and the step-children.
Of course, all is not as it seems in Zoe's picture-perfect life, and things start to unravel very quickly, and secrets come to light.
The series is airing nightly on Channel 5, with viewers tuning in to follow the complex drama. But some viewers pointed a big blunder in the second episode.
After feeling unwell, a pregnant Zoe falls to the ground and is whisked away to hospital for a scan on her unborn baby. Sandrine joins Zoe for support as the nurse performs an ultrasound over her hospital gown.
Viewers pointed out such an ultrasound would be performed on her bare belly and criticised the show.
One viewer said: "Has anyone EVER had a baby ultrasound scan done over clothing?"
A second viewer shared: "Well I've seen a lot of implausible things on TV but someone having an ultrasound scan over the top of their clothes is a new one on me".
A third audience member remarked: "Aren't ultrasounds performed on the belly with no clothes in the way? This is so weird".
Another person commented: "That's a pretty well developed 5 week old foetus".
One viewer questioned: "Why would you let the au pair go to the hospital with you? She barely knows her".
The second episode ended with Sandrine claiming she was Zoe's daughter after her true identity was exposed.
The criticisms of The Au Pair come as some viewers spotted the series clearly didn't look like England, despite being set in the Cotswolds.
The Au Pair was filmed approximately an hour from Dublin, Ireland. The stunning Victorian setting on screen is, in fact, the real-life Lis na Carrig, situated in the affluent Foxrock suburb of Dublin.
However, not all fans were deceived by the show's attempt to pass off the Irish landscape as England.
One keen-eyed observer noted: "Is this going to be another Channel 5 show I watch and then wish I hadn't? I see they've done the usual thing of filming it abroad and trying to pass it off as England, despite it being obvious it isn't and just making things feel jarring."
Au Pair airs nightly at 9pm on Channel 5, with episodes to be released on streaming service, My5.
