Fans of The Bay were quick to express their delight as the show made a triumphant return with its fifth series after a two-year hiatus.
The popular ITV crime drama, set against the backdrop of Morecambe Bay, follows the gripping work of family liaison officer DS Jenn Townsend as she tackles a harrowing new case.
In the opening episode on Sunday evening (March 2), audiences watched as DS Jenn grappled with her father's recent passing while diving headfirst into the investigation of a young woman's murder.
The victim, a 23-year-old university student named Hannah, is discovered lifeless at the docks, setting off a high-stakes inquiry. Jenn and her team delve into a web of concealed friendships and clandestine encounters, stirring unrest among the student population.

This comes after Marsha Thomason, a star from the series, revealed that she struggled to maintain her composure during an emotional moment on set.
Speaking with Manchester Evening News about the more demanding scenes, she shared: "It's wonderful, I love playing Jenn and she's a lot to sink my teeth into. I'm really grateful for that, but one of the scenes that comes to mind is when Jenn goes to tell Julie [played by Leanne Best] that her daughter is dead."
During rehearsals for this particular scene, Thomason was overcome with emotion due to the intensity of her co-star's performance, confessing: "We rehearsed it, Leanne is incredible in this series, but my gosh in this rehearsal, she just... it was unbelievable. I couldn't hold it together and I was just balling my eyes out."
