The Beatles: everything you need to know as Fab Four cast unveiled for biopics
British director Sam Mendes has announced the cast for his upcoming series of Beatles biopics due to be released in 2028 - but who are the actors?
British film director Sam Mendes has finally confirmed the cast of his much-anticipated Beatles biopics, adding yet more excitement for the upcoming films.
The filmmaker appeared on stage this week in Las Vegas alongside his Fab Four cast, which includes Harris Dickinson playing John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn playing George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
Speaking in front of audiences at CinemaCon, Mendes confirmed that a total of four films will be made that centre on each artist’s life, and all the films will be released in April 2028.
“We’re not just making one film about the Beatles – we’re making four,” Mendes said about his upcoming project.
"Each one is told from the particular perspective of just one of the guys," Mendez added. "They intersect in different ways - sometimes overlapping, sometimes not.
The four leads also recited the famed Beatles’ lyrics: “It's wonderful to be here, it's certainly a thrill, you're such a lovely audience, we'd like to take you home with us."

Despite all the excitement surrounding the cast announcement, fans now have some waiting to do before they see the four actors step into the shoes of the legendary Scousers.

Born and raised in East London, 28-year-old Harris Dickinson dropped out of film and theatre school as a teenager before being convinced by a coach at Raw Academy to continue pursuing an acting career.
His breakthrough role came in 2017 when he was cast in the coming-of-age film Beach Rats, which earned him a number of nominations and awards.
Since then, his acting career has continued to soar. Dickinson has since been cast in a number of major films, including Triangle of Sadness, Where The Crowdads Sing, and The King’s Man. His latest role in the 2024 film Baby Girl saw him cast in a leading role alongside Nicole Kidman in the erotic thriller.
Dickinson has been cast as John Lennon, one of the original Fab Four stars who co-founded the band alongside Paul McCartney and led co-vocals and rhythm guitar. The world famous musician, who was also a fervent political activist, was assasinated in 1980 by Mark David Chapman.
Addressing rumours earlier this year that he had been cast in the films, Dickinson told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think it would be a brilliant opportunity to play John Lennon, and to work with Sam and everyone else mentioned.”

Saltburn legend Barry Keoghan, 32, has been cast as The Beatles’ drummer, Ringo Starr. The musician, whose real name is Sir Richard Starkey, is one of the two surviving Beatles and is understood to have given his blessing to the upcoming films.
Starr replaced Pete Best as the band’s lead percussionist in 1962 and as well as playing drums also lent lead vocals and contributed to the writing of several songs. He’s also considered one of the greatest drummers of all time.
Originally from Ireland, Keoghan is a BAFTA award winning actor that found fame after starring in Dunkirk in 2017. His acting career has been nothing but successful ever since, and he’s appeared in a number of shows including The Banshees of Inisherin and The Batman.
According to Starr, Keoghan has also been practicing for the role, and confirmed earlier this year that he was getting into character by through music classes.
“The only thing, I heard the guy who’s playing me was taking drum lessons, and I asked someone to tell him not to take too many,” Starr told PEOPLE magazine.

Joseph Quinn, 31, is known for starring in Stranger Things and more recently Gladiator II. The South London native studied at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) before quickly stepping into the professional world of threate and TV.
It’s been rumoured since later 2024 that Quinn had been cast as George Harrison, the lead guitarist of The Beatles, which was confirmed this week.
However, Quinn had remained tight lipped about his roile when he was asked last year who his favourite Beatle was, saying: “I don't know what you are talking about. I like all of the Beatles. Whoever does that is going to have a great time.”
Harrison, the youngest Beatle, also contributed to the writing and performance of a number of the group’s hits, including Here Comes The Sun. When the band broke up, he enjoyed a successful solo career but suffered from ill health in later life.
Harrison died at the age of 58 in 2001 after the lung cancer he had been diagnosed with spread to his brain.

Paul Mescal, known for Normal People, Aftersun and Gladiator II among others, will star as Paul McCartney in the upcoming biopics.
The 29-year-old actor, originally from Ireland, had a background in theatre before he found instant fame when he was cast as Connell Waldron in the mini series Normal People.
It’s long been rumoured that Mescal would be among the Fab Four cast, after Mendes appeared to let slip at an event last year that the actor was working on the film next.
When quizzed about his casting, Mescal said: “It would be an incredible story to be attached to … The fact that Sam Mendes is attached to direct, like truly, it would be a dream come true.”
Mescal will star as McCartney, the other living Beatle and co-founder of the band. The 82-year-old British icon, who played bass guitar, piano and lead vocals, is known to have written a number of the band’s top hits.
After the Beatles disbanded, McCartney went on to enjoy considerable success for his solo work, as well as collaborating with a number of other musicians and bands in an incredible musical career that’s spanned more than six decades.
