Among the edgier of awards season’s red carpets, hair looks at the Grammys tend to follow suit.

Take Doja Cat’s 2022 Grammys half-up, half-down style, with her platinum tendrils taking big cues from ’90s nostalgia. Dua Lipa donned a similar, two-toned updo in 2020.

In 2024, Miley Cyrus turned up the volume on her style before taking on both the red carpet and the stage in her Bob Mackie dress.

Structured updos have also had their moments over the years, from Dylan Mulvaney in 2023 to Katy Perry nine years prior. The former accentuated her bun with a wrapped-around braid and a sharp cat-eye; the latter’s ultra-slick take on the style complemented a soft pink lip and shimmering metallic eye shadow.

And though Jennifer Lopez’s Grammys looks have become synonymous with the green Versace gown she wore in 2000, her hair is usually just as eye-catching. In 2023, for example, she kept shiny, loose curls over the plummeting neckline of her blue Gucci gown. That style is similar to Adele whom, in recent years, goes full old Hollywood with her curls.

Less structured curls than that, though, also get reinterpreted each year. Rihanna’s in 2017, for example, bore similarities to Kelly Clarkson’s in 2024.

On the more effortless side was Kim Kardashian’s beachy waved bob in 2014, which had a similar textural feel to Madonna’s hairstyle of the same year — though the singer topped hers with a black, wide-brimmed hat and matching cane.

And then, of course, Diana Ross flaunted her beauty signature with an equally voluminous gown in 2019 onstage.

In advance of Sunday’s 2025 Grammys, WWD takes a look at the best hair the event has garnered in its nearly seven decades.
