The Handmaid's Tale's sequel series gets big update and fans 'can't wait'
A sequel series to The Handmaid's Tale was first announced more than six years ago and now the show has finally received a huge update.
After a six-year wait, fans of The Handmaid's Tale have finally been given a significant update on the sequel series. Mike Barker, known for his work on Fargo, has been announced as the director of the first three episodes of The Testaments and will also serve as an executive producer.
Barker, a British director, has previously directed 12 episodes of The Handmaid's Tale, earning him two Emmy awards. His other credits include ITV's popular series Broadchurch and an upcoming thriller titled Malice, set to premiere on Prime Video later this year.
It was earlier revealed that Chase Infiniti from Presumed Innocent has been cast as one of the main leads in the sequel, with Ann Dowd expected to reprise her role as Lydia.
While directors for the remaining episodes are yet to be announced, filming is anticipated to commence in Canada shortly.
The Testaments will continue the narrative in the dystopian theocracy of Gilead, over 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale. The plot will revolve around three women whose lives become entwined as they uncover the secrets of Gilead and its resistance.
The series is based on the 2019 Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name, co-winner with Bernardine Evaristo's Girl, Woman, Other. Fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel series, with many expressing their anticipation on Reddit, reports the Mirror US

Another fervent follower eagerly wrote, "I'm so thrilled for this! Loved the book," and a third chipped in with delight, "Looking forward to Testaments!"
