The One Show's Alex Jones says 'that has floored me' over live surprise
The One Show host Alex Jones was left stunned on Monday night
On Monday's The One Show, host Alex Jones was taken aback by an unexpected emotional moment.
The programme featured Davina McCall, who bravely stepped onto the live show for the first time since her brain surgery to discuss Red Nose Day. Just four months prior, the 57-year-old TV personality had undergone an operation to remove a benign brain tumour, also known as a colloid cyst.
Taking her place on The One Show sofa on Monday evening, Davina shared that this marked her first live television appearance post-surgery and spoke about the forthcoming Red Nose Day celebration. Amidst the buzz around Red Nose Day Comic Relief, Davina delighted 47-year-old host Alex with an unexpected surprise.
Co-presenter Vernon Kay, 50, remarked: "Money raised from Comic Relief goes towards helping people in the UK and overseas. Alex you've seen first hand what the money does..." to which Alex affirmed: "I have! Comic Relief funds lots of projects each year here in the UK, for young children and mums in particular, one example is called Maternity Mates", reports the Mirror.
She continued, reminiscing: "But ten years ago, I had a chance to go to Uganda, where they helped transform a maternity centre in desperate need of refurbishment. Gosh, I remember that like it was yesterday!"
It was then that Vernon hinted: "Well Davina, you've got a bit of a surprise for our Alex..." to which Davina disclosed: "I have because Comic Relief have been doing a little bit of filming in Uganda again... and they spoke to someone you might remember... called Angela... who was the midwife... have a look at this!"
A touching video featuring the very midwife was shown before another heartwarming clip, which captured the grateful mother Alex had assisted in labour. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude on camera.
The mother radiated thanks as she said: "In 2015, Alex and Dr Angela helped me give birth. They came and took me to the hospital in Tororo and then brought me back to Iyolwa Health Centre. This is the child that I gave birth to and named him after you."
Her nine-year-old son, Alex, then appeared on the screen to deliver a charming message of his own.
Following the emotional video, the overwhelmed host Alex confessed: "Oh my goodness! Oh my Gosh! I can't even believe that, it seems like yesterday but I had never seen anybody giving birth before, I cut the umbilical cord with a razor because that's all there was."
Completely taken aback by the surprise and heartfelt messages, Alex concluded: "That is amazing, gosh, that has floored me!"
The One Show continues on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
