This new biographical film will explore the formative years of Welsh actor, Richard Burton, and the man who had a 'profound' impact on his life
From Port Talbot to Hollywood. Mr Burton, a new biopic starring Toby Jones, explores the story of a miner's son and his meteoric rise to fame. Richard Burton is arguably one of Wales most famous sons. Hollywood icon, renowned Shakespearean actor and the twice married husband of Elizabeth Taylor.
However, behind the Welsh legend is a story of a working class boy who fought against all odds to become one of the world's most famous Shakespearian actors. Set against the backdrop of a wartime Wales, the story follows 17-year-old Richard Jenkins, played by Harry Lawtey, known for his roles in Industry and Joker: Folie Ă Deux. A wayward schoolboy, Richard finds himself caught between the pressures of his struggling family, a devastating war, and his own ambitions. Yet, a new opportunity arises when his natural talent for drama catches the attention of his teacher, Philip Burton, played by BAFTA winner Toby Jones, star of Mr Bates vs. The Post Office.
Taking Richard under his wing, the young man thrives thanks to Philip's strict tutelage and the guidance of kindly landlady, Ma Smith, who is played by Academy Award nominee, Lesley Manville. From BAFTA winning director Marc Evans (Manhunt), and the producer of The Brutalist, this is a tale of identity, class and defying expectations. Mr Burton is released to celebrate Richard Burton's 100th birthday, the centenary of a man who, despite humble beginnings, would be remembered for his powerful voice and moving performances.

Mr Burton will be appearing in cinemas on Friday April, 4.
