The real reason Macy Gray 'stormed off' The Masked Singer
The Masked Singer viewers were left shocked at the weekend when Toad in the Hole was unmasked as US singing sensation Macy Gray - but the star was far from impressed
The Masked Singer UK viewers were in for a surprise on Saturday evening as Toad In The Hole was revealed to be American singer Macy Gray. Bear, Pufferfish, Bush, and Toad in the Hole all took to the stage, but it was Toad who had to bid farewell.
Following the show's format, the unmasked celebrity was required to reveal their identity. However, before Macy could be unmasked, she abruptly left the stage when host Joel Dommett broke the news of her departure.
The audience at home was taken aback, but shortly after, Macy returned to the stage and was unveiled, appearing less than thrilled about her exit from the show.
A source has now suggested that Macy was "blindsided" by her early elimination from The Masked Singer, especially after making it to the final of the US version as Sea Queen in 2023. Speaking to The Sun, the insider said: "She was almost shellshocked to start with," and felt "gutted to be out so early because she really enjoyed being on the American version - when obviously she did brilliantly - so was totally blindsided."
They added: "It was the shock of it for her as well as the upset and in that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out. For a professional performer to reach that point shows how badly she felt.", reports the Mirror.

The Mirror have approached her representatives and ITV for comment after Macy Gray's poised departure from the stage on The Masked Singer, leaving viewers debating the tension-filled scene on social media. Online commentary saw varied reactions with one viewer tweeting: "Well that was awkward... #maskedsingeruk."
Another remarked in disbelief: "Wow is Macy Gray really that heartbroken that she's been kicked off Masked Singer", while another observed: "Oh everyone looks so awkward. She walked off stage. cannot deal #maskedsingeruk #maskedsinger."
Someone else expressed discomfort: "Did anyone else feel awkward watching the last few minutes of that .. Macy Gray pls #maskedsingeruk." The panel had strong inklings that Toad in the Hole was Macy Gray due to her rendition of Boney M's 'Sunny', leading to her elimination over Bear who also faced a sing-off.
When asked by host Joel Dommett, 39, whether she enjoyed her time on the show, Macy, known for her hit 'Sweet Baby', responded simply with: "Yeah". Jonathan Ross playfully apologised to Macy for Joel's choice of shorts in an attempt to lighten the atmosphere, as Joel himself noted his gratitude for her participation.
Macy Gray, renowned for her soulful voice and classic hits, notably 'I Try' which garnered the Grammy for best female pop vocal performance in 2001, took to the iconic Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival both in 2000 and 2003. During an earlier segment of the show, she delivered a rendition of Bobby Hebb's 'Sunny', prompting panel member Mo Gilligan to speculate that American singer Tracy Chapman might be under the guise.
Macy, donning attire reminiscent of the Elizabethan era, also performed Will Smith's 'Miami', while 'Bush' rendered Jess Glynne's 'Hold My Hand'. Newcomer to the panel Maya Jama was left deeply impressed by Pufferfish's rendition of Cyndi Lauper's anthem 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun', describing it as "stunning".
Also, taking the stage was 'Wolf', performing the high-energy number 'Copacabana (At the Copa)' by Barry Manilow, leading guest star Suranne Jones to suggest Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet could be behind the mask, whereas Davina McCall surmised it could be Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran. Following performances by 'Wolf', 'Bush', and 'Pufferfish', 'Bear' captivated with 'Stay' by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, while 'Toad In The Hole' sang Roxette's heartfelt 'It Must Have Been Love'.
After their acts, the panellists decided to save 'Bear'. Last weekend's reveal shocked the audience when Sir Mo Farah emerged as the disguised celebrity previously portraying host Joel.
