The 'real reason' Meghan Markle flew home early from the Invictus Games
The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly flown home early from The Invictus Games for one key reason.
Meghan Markle has returned home to California this week after a jam-packed few days in Canada with Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has been by her husband’s side since the opening of the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver on Saturday. However, she has since returned home alone.
Harry, who founded the Invictus Games to help injured veterans in 2014, is set to stay in Canada until the end of the competition on Sunday.
While Meghan’s decision to fly home solo on Tuesday may have turned heads, especially after the couple’s loved-up displays of affection in the days prior, it seems there is one key reason behind her decision.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers told The Sun that the duchess is likely to have flown back to Montecito to be with the couple’s young children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, who did not attend the competition with their parents.
Meghan previously said in an opening speech for the Invictus Games on Saturday that the children were "cheering" Harry on from California and were very "excited".
Hugo Vickers told The Sun: "I think probably the main reason that she (Meghan) went back was to be with the children, because they obviously take that very seriously, and she had been away for four or five days.
"Secondly, I think it's very important that Prince Harry should be concentrating on the participants of the Invictus games and supporting them.
"It's a much better look for the Games to have him there on his own, rather than it being a Meghan Markle Show, which it has been to some extent at the beginning.”
While Harry, 40, has become used to being at certain events without his wife, especially after a number of solo visits overseas last year, the prince told People magazine at the weekend how happy he was to have Meghan by his side for the competition.
He told People: "To have my wife here supporting me is amazing. I love that she’s by my side. It’s such an important piece to this whole adventure."
Since arriving back to the family’s Montecito mansion, Meghan shared a sweet picture on Instagram of the presents she had received during her time in Canada for her children.
She uploaded the picture to her Instagram story with the caption: "A taste of Canada and the Invictus Games for our little ones! Cheering you on from home!"
