This City is Ours viewers were again impressed with the BBC's latest crime drama last night.
Fans took to social media, including Twitter or X as it is now known, to praise the gritty drama, which is about the power struggle between crime boss Ronnie Phelan, who's looking to retire, his partner Michael Kavanagh and his amibitious son Jamie. The second episode of the eight-part series aired on Sunday and, like the opener, was again written by Stephen Butchard and directed by Saul Dibb.
‌
As the Mirror reported last week, the synopsis says: "This is a story about family, and love destroyed and corrupted by ambition, pride and greed. It’s a story about power: what we will do to secure and keep it." Viewers felt it continue to live up to the exciting teaser, particularly through its acting.

‌
The drama also stars Jack McMullen, famed for his roles in Brookside, Waterloo Road and Time. The 34-year-old actor, originally from Liverpool where This City is Ours was filmed last year, plays Jamie in the series, which is due to conclude in May. He too is praised on Twitter for his engaging portrayal.
One fan wrote: "This City is Ours is one of the best series I’ve watched in a while. Great TV." Another viewer, who has confessed to already bingeing the series on iPlayer shared: "Started watching This City is Ours on Friday night and just finished it, what a show." One fan, who says on X he works in the TV industry, posted: "Just finished This City is Ours on BBC iPlayer. Outstanding. Exactly what British drama should be. Majority homegrown Liverpool cast and loads of upcoming regional talent. Totally made for British audiences & hugely appealing to working class, regional audiences."
Others have already encouraged the BBC to commission a second series of the drama, which last week was lauded by a critic in The Times for its "modern, witty and authentic" dialogue. There has been no confirmation about a second series by the BBC, however.

A raft of British dramas has been released in recent months across mainstream channels, including BBC and ITV, and streaming services, such as Netflix. ITV's Protection, starring Siobhan Finneran, has also been widely praised by fans and viewers - but it is now up against This City is Ours in the tough Sunday night schedule in linear television. Both programmes are, though, available to watch on the channels' streaming sites.
