Three Greater Manchester Sainsbury's Cafes closing as 3,000 job cuts announced
The cafes are set to close in the spring
Three cafes inside branches of Sainsbury's in Greater Manchester are set to close amid a huge overhaul.
The company is cutting more than 3,000 jobs - 2% of its entire workforce - slashing about 20% of senior management roles as part of plans to focus on fewer, bigger roles and to simplify its head office and management teams.
Its 61 remaining store-run cafes will also be closing 'subject to consultation', including the one in Denton, Tameside and those in Cheadle and Hazel Grove, both Stockport.
Sainsbury's it was 'a difficult decision and not taken lightly' but that the majority of its most loyal shoppers do not use the cafes regularly and its cafes and food halls run by specialist partners 'are becoming more and more popular'.
It's already shared plans to create space to offer more fresh food ranges in more stores by closing remaining patisserie, hot food and pizza counters, while making the most popular items available elsewhere in the store.

Simon Roberts, Sainsbury’s chief executive, said the supermarket was facing a 'particularly challenging cost environment' as it moves forward with its company strategy.
He said: “As we accelerate into year two and beyond of our strategy, we are facing into a particularly challenging cost environment which means we have had to make tough choices about where we can afford to invest and where we need to do things differently to make our business more efficient and effective.
“The decisions we are announcing today are essential to ensure we continue to drive forward our momentum but have also meant some difficult choices impacting our dedicated colleagues in a number of parts of our business.
“We’ll be doing everything we can to support anyone impacted by today’s announcements.”
Sainsbury's has a number of stores across Greater Manchester, including Prestwich, Leigh, Salford, Wigan, Westhoughton and Urmston.
