Tina Knowles Shares Who Granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter Turns to For Advice—and It’s Not Her
Tina Knowles said on "The Jennifer Hudson Show" that Beyonce's eldest daughter Blue Ivy Carter doesn't turn to her for advice.

Tina Knowles is certainly an involved grandmother—but she knows where to draw the line.
Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Knowles shared how her eldest granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter—the 13-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z—takes after her, but said on the show that Blue typically goes to Beyoncé for advice and not her.
“Her and her mother are really tight, so they don’t need me to give much advice,” Knowles told Hudson. “They tell me to mind my business.”

Knowles knows the importance of the mother-daughter relationship. While speaking at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards last year, she said, “I’ve had many careers, but I’ve always said that the best job that I’ve ever had is being a mother.”
Per People, Knowles—who is mom to not just Beyoncé but Solange Knowles, as well—continued, “I've had the privilege of raising and helping to raise four daughters...two that were born to me, and two that were a gift to me from God. You know, I was somewhat of a rebellious teen and a young adult, and I didn't always follow the rules, but the day that I became a mother, I decided that this was one thing that I wouldn't screw up.”
Elsewhere in her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show to promote her upcoming memoir, aptly titled Matriarch, Knowles shared that she was “really, really shocked” when Beyoncé won Best Country Album and Album of the Year at the Grammys earlier this month.

Her surprise came, she told Hudson, because “there’s been so many times that I thought that would happen and it didn’t,” per Entertainment Weekly.
Like Knowles, Beyoncé appeared shocked at the Grammys, too, even becoming a viral meme for her reaction to winning Best Country Album for 2024’s Cowboy Carter. “It was funny because then they show Blue…and Beyoncé is sitting like this and Blue is saying, ‘Get up,’” Knowles said. “They call her the manager. She’s a bossy little Capricorn like her grandma.”

Last July, Blue was honored with the YoungStars Award at the 2024 BET Awards, and, while Knowles may not give the teenager advice, she certainly doesn’t shy away from giving her praise.
“Congratulations my Blue Blue!” Knowles wrote on Instagram at the time. “I marvel at your talent, your beauty, your intelligence, but I am most proud of your kindness and down to earth attitude.”
