Transit riders are also being asked for their feedback on initial designs of the bus rapid transit (BRT) stations, which include cover from weather and real-time information displays, as TransLink moves forward with planning the two new routes.

The King George Boulevard route will stop at 12 new stations in Surrey, while the Langley-Haney Place route will service 13 new stations in Maple Ridge and Langley.

Locations for the future stations were chosen based on ease of connection to other transit hubs such as Surrey Central, King George and the upcoming Willowbrook stations, as well as proximity to park and rides, retail centres, and other transit exchanges.

The two routes were also planned to āsupport growing residential areas and key destinationsā such as near Simon Fraser Universityās Surrey campus, Surrey Memorial Hospital, Haney Place Mall, Ridge Meadows Hospital, Langley Evens Centre and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

āWith over 200,000 residents and more than 100,000 jobs within walking distance of these two routes, BRT will provide major economic benefits to our region for decades to come,ā said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn.

The King George Boulevard route and the Langley-Haney Place route are just two of nine corridors that will see bus rapid transit over the next decade. Public engagement for a BRT route linking Metrotown and the North Shore will also take place later in 2025.

There is currently no funding and no set timeline in place for these BRT projects, though TransLink says it is āworking to secure funding for BRT implementation from all levels of government.ā Once funding is in place, itās estimated BRT construction will take five years.

āWeāve heard from communities across the region that they need better transit now ā and BRT is our best option to provide high quality service to more communities quickly,ā said Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West, who also chairs TransLinkās Mayorsā Council.
