Travis Kelce Had to Try and Keep It Cool the Last Time Taylor Swift Was Booed at a Stadium

Taylor Swift was embarrassed, according to body language experts, by the loud boos she received at Super Bowl LIX. It might not be the kind of reception Swift is used to at this stage in her career. But itâs not the first time sheâs received such a raucous response. Previously, her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, mightâve been more bothered by the boos than Swift.

The fans booing Swift and her visceral response was as discussed as the actual Super Bowl. Swift reportedly said, âWhatâs going onâ when the stadiumâs jumbotron showed her wide-eyed and surprised before composing herself.
Itâs a question that others have asked as well â wondering what Swift did to earn her the backlash. A popular theory is that the number of Philadelphia Eagles fans greatly outweighed the number of Kansas City Chief troops at the stadium. So, Swift was basically in enemy territory, especially with her and Kelce almost being the face of the Chiefs since their relationship went public.
The theory somewhat tracks. Swift received a similar reaction a couple of years ago when supporting one of her boyfriendâs games. In 2023, Kelce and the Chiefs played the New England Patriots. When Swift was shown during the competition, fans booed her not too unlike how she was booed during the 2025 Super Bowl. On Kelceâs New Heights podcast, he addressed Swiftâs 2023 boos, asserting that he didnât think it was anything personal against the pop star.
âIâll say this â they showed Taylor at the game,â Kelce said. âAnd I mean, you donât see an entire home team fan base go insane for somebody wearing the opposite teamâs colors. Just shows you how amazing that girl is. They went absolutely insane when they showed Taylor on the screen, yes.â
But Kelce noted even that experience mightâve been different from her cold Super Bowl reception. Although Kelce acknowledged Swiftâs boos, he believed there were way more fans in the stands cheering Swift on.
âThere might have been a few Brads and Chads that were booing. But, for the most part, everybody was f***ing screaming their tail off for her,â he said.
Either way, Kelce admitted he exercised considerable restraint when it came to his girlfriend being booed. He reminded himself it was all in good fun.
âI was like, âDonât show your cards, donât show your cards.â It was fun, man. Taylorâs on record saying that stadiumâs one of the funnest that she played at, so for them to show her is kind of just showing her some love, so shoutout to the Patriots for doing that,â he said.
Swift, who reportedly didnât want to be the center of attention at this yearâs Super Bowl, mightâve been more hurt by the boos this year. The same could be said about Kelce, who already had a bad night as the Eagles dominated the Chiefs early in the game. But his girlfriendâs unpopularity with the crowd only made the night worse.
âTravis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless. Seeing the look on her face got to him,â a source reportedly told Daily Mail. âHe always protects her and it broke his heart. He was already having a tough night and the fact that the stadium was predominantly Eagles fans didnât help. Travis knows that this hurt her and anyone can see this.â
Additionally, the insider added another element to Swiftâs reception when they acknowledged that the âShake It Offâ singer was a proud Eagles fan.
âItâs clear to many that the Eagles fans feel she is a traitor of sorts â being from Pennsylvania and even wearing Eagles gear before dating him. Travis believes that it was unnecessary for Trump to take a dig at her especially after he voiced that he was honored for a president to be there,â the source added.
