A British couple on a global motorbike adventure have been arrested in Iran, sparking serious worries among their family.

Craig and Lindsay Foreman were taken into custody in January, but it was only recently reported by Iranian state media that they are facing charges related to security.

The situation has been described as deeply troubling by their relatives.

Setting off from Armenia on December 30, the pair aimed to eventually reach Australia, documenting their travels on social media.

Lindsay Foreman was conducting a research project during the trip, exploring the concept of a "good life" and was scheduled to present her work at a Brisbane conference in July, as per BBC.

Despite their current predicament, the couple had been posting positive updates from Iran, reassuring friends on Facebook on January 3 that they were enjoying their time there.

In a statement, the family expressed their distress: "We would like to take this opportunity to address the distressing situation concerning Craig and Lindsay Foreman, who are currently being detained in Kerman, Iran.

"This unexpected turn of events has caused significant concern for our entire family, and we are deeply focused on ensuring their safety and well-being during this trying time.

"We are actively engaging with the British Government and relevant authorities, working diligently to navigate the complexities of this matter.

"The family are united in our determination to secure their safe return."

An update from the couple's Facebook page, known as PPK2K (Positive People Knee-to-Knee) RTW Motorcycle Mission, called the idea of travelling to Iran "slightly scary", listing concerns that include the risk of arrest.

The adventurous pair was planning to move on to Pakistan, sharing on social media on January 3: "It's a very busy itinerary, we have limited connectivity and we have to use a vpn to get onto most apps (especially social media) so I will hopefully catch up with posting when we arrive in Pakistan (from tomorrow evening though we have to have a government provided armed escort for the first few days so let's see how that goes? ! ! )."

Subsequent upbeat posts detailed their experiences in Iran, expressing being "overwhelmed by the sense of connection" there. In one image, Ms Foreman appears alongside a "kind-hearted mullah" with both placing their hands over their hearts.

The caption stated: "At the Madrasa Naseriyeh in Isfahan, I had the privilege of meeting this kind and thoughtful mullah. Despite our differences in background, language, and belief, this gesture said everything: I see you. I honour you. We are connected."

The most recent TikTok entry from Ms Foreman, posted on December 28, featured the duo enjoying the rural landscapes of Armenia.

Mr Foremans most recent Facebook update, featuring snaps from Isfahan in Iran and dated January 3, includes several selfies of him and his partner, accompanied by the words: "What a wonderful place".
