Patel opened his January hearing by addressing the members of the Senate on several key issues and positions. He doubled down on his point that there âcan never be a tolerance for violence against law enforcement and anyone that commits an act of violence against law enforcement must be investigated, prosecuted and imprisoned.â Patel then referred to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, insisting that he âsaid the same thing about acts against law enforcement.â
The following month, Patel was accused by Democratic Senate Judiciary Committee member Dick Durbin of trying to fire FBI personnel as a private citizen.
