MBC’s upcoming drama “Motel California” has unveiled a new teaser!
“Motel California” is a romance drama that follows the story of Ji Kang Hee (Lee Se Young) who grows up in a rural motel called Motel California. After escaping her hometown, she returns 12 years later to reconnect with her first love and childhood friend Cheon Yeon Soo (Na In Woo) and face new challenges.
The teaser reveals the love story between Ji Kang Hee and Cheon Yeon Soo from their innocent days as 9-year-olds to their journey into adulthood, sparking curiosity.
The teaser opens with 9-year-old Kang Hee and chubby-cheeked Yeon Soo walking side by side on dimly lit neighborhood streets in the middle of winter, carrying oversized backpacks and eating ice cream. Yeon Soo’s caring nature shines through as he carries Kang Hee’s shoe bag, bringing a smile to viewers. Kang Hee’s innocent remark, “If you eat the first snow 10 times, your first love will come true,” sets the stage for their childhood promise of marriage. As they take turns catching snowflakes on their tongues, the scene fills viewers’ hearts with warmth and excitement.
The teaser also shows Kang Hee as a shy high school girl and Yeon Soo, now a high school boy with a teddy bear-like appearance, enjoying sweet, carefree dates without worrying about others’ opinions. Their innocent moments of affection—pinky promises, sharing ice cream, linking arms, and resting on each other’s shoulders—capture the joy of first love.
As time passes, Yeon Soo undergoes a dramatic transformation. His once-chubby, teddy bear-like image is replaced by a sharp, refined look. Surprised, Kang Hee asks, “Is that really Yeon Soo?” Yeon Soo responds, “Ji Kang Hee, didn’t you miss me?”—a question that stirs her emotions. However, Kang Hee coldly turns away from the changed Yeon Soo, hinting that their love story will face many challenges.
In a heartfelt moment, Yeon Soo confesses, “You’re my first. So, I’ll wait for you,” before embracing Kang Hee. This scene suggests that Kang Hee and Yeon Soo may defy the idea that first loves cannot come true, sparking curiosity about whether their first love story can be reimagined.
