Poppy has performed a unique cover of Sabrina Carpenter's 'Taste' for 'Like A Version', which includes an interpolation of a The Divinyls hit.

Poppy has performed her take on Sabrina Carpenter‘s ‘Taste’ for triple j‘s Like A Version series – you can watch it below.
triple j has shared Poppy’s full performance for its Live A Version series, which sees musicians performing covers of other artists’ work, albeit with their own stylings. The performance – which also includes a masked Jordan Fish – was recorded during her recent tour in Australia with Bad Omens.
Speaking on why she chose the song, Poppy explained: “I love her voice and I think she’s very pretty. And the song is really fun to sing, so here we are.”
For the performance, Poppy also pays homage to Australian band The Divinyls, interpolating their song ‘I Touch Myself’ after ‘Taste”s chorus. Poppy explained why she chose to honour The Divinyls: “The first time I heard [‘Taste’], I thought it sounded like ‘I Touch Myself’, which is also my favourite karaoke song, so combining it made sense.”

This isn’t the first time that Poppy and Sabrina Carpenter have crossed paths in a way. Back in 2019, the two musicians were seen together at the Billboard Music Awards, and were photographed together on the red carpet.
RecommendedPoppy’s cover was uploaded shortly after both Poppy and Carpenter were nominated at the Grammy Awards earlier this week. Poppy was nominated for Best Metal Performance for ‘Suffocate’ with Knocked Loose, while Carpenter – who also performed at the awards – was nominated for several awards.

On the red carpet, fellow metal musician Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox was misidentified by a reporter as Poppy, and conducted an interview with LaPlante who was put on the spot and had to answer questions meant for Poppy.
AdvertisementLaPlante decided to go along with the awkward error and answer as if she were Poppy. After giving the interviewer a look of confusion, LaPlante responded: “I am Poppy, and I am really happy to be here nominated with Knocked Loose. I hope it’s me [who wins] or Spiritbox and Courtney.”

The black-and-white tee features a printed name tag reading: “Hello, I am Poppy.”
Elsewhere, Spotify has jumped on the viral Grammys moment by using a photo of LaPlante on its Kickass Metal Playlist, along with the note: “Poppy on top of today’s best Metal playlist.”
Knocked Loose and Poppy’s ‘Suffocate’ landed at Number 17 on NME‘s 50 best songs of 2024 list at the end of last year. In November, they played an epic rendition of the collaborative track together on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The newly released character trailer spotlights the contrasting dynamics between two groups: Jae Yoon’s team, desperately trying to escape a zombie-infested tower, and Young Joo’s team, determined to get to the tower. Despite the chaos surrounding him, Jae Yoon’s top priority remains finding a way to contact Young Joo. His struggle is made even more entertaining by his hapless junior soldier Ra In Ho (Im Seong Jae), who keeps making clumsy mistakes, and hotel general manager Aaron Park (Kim Jun Han), who is more committed to defending his beloved building than escaping.
Meanwhile, Young Joo, the fearless and formidable girlfriend of Jae Yoon, proves that not even a zombie apocalypse can stand in her way. From gleefully celebrating after acquiring a chainsaw to swinging a golf club with unrelenting force, her determination to reach Jae Yoon is unwavering. Her bold personality shines through, whether she’s hurling profanity at zombies or taunting Jae Yoon over a video call: “I’m hella strong! I'm stronger than you!”
Alongside her is a diverse and intriguing lineup of allies. Her college senior Jin Wook (Kang Young Seok), who initially seems like the perfect gentleman, takes a shocking turn once the zombie crisis unfolds as he becomes a hilarious fool. Meanwhile, celebrity CEO Alex (Lee Hak Joo) emerges as Young Joo’s strongest supporter in her relentless quest to reunite with Jae Yoon as he belives Jae Yoon and his fellow soldiers will be their best chance at survival.
Rounding out the group is a surprise addition: a perpetually drunk, struggling college applicant (Tang Jun Sang), whose antics add another layer of chaos to the mix.
