We Spotted The Next Big Bridal Trend At The 2025 Oscars And It's Too Gorgeous Not To Copy - Glam
The 97th Academy Awards brought out many A-listers, but one performer made us hear wedding bells - and her Oscars dress is sure to inspire 2025 bridal trends.
By March 3, 2025 12:45 pm EST
While quite a few celebs shared the title of worst-dressed at the 2025 Oscars on Sunday, March 2, Cynthia Erivo was firmly on the other end of the spectrum. Not only was her witchy red-carpet tribute to Elphaba — a breathtaking, custom dark-green velvet Louis Vuitton ballgown — a masterclass in method dressing (though she's often one of the celebrities who nails it), but it also proved that glamor doesn't have to be predictable. And while Erivo didn't end up taking home the Oscar in the best actress category for her role in the film adaptation of the Broadway mainstay "Wicked," she still walked away a winner in our eyes because her on-stage look will undoubtedly spark the next big bridal trend.

As Erivo performed a beautiful rendition of "Home" from the 1978 musical-movie "The Wiz," as well as her "Defying Gravity" duet with Ariana Grande, all eyes were on her stunning gown. The asymmetrical, one-shoulder neckline and dreamy, teal-blue ombré bottom already gave new life to the classic white ballgown, but it was the addition of delicate, 3D flowers that truly helped turn this look into something magical.
The gown Cynthia Erivo wore for her performance at The 97th Academy Awards could have easily been just another elegant white dress. However, the cascading 3D flowers that were draped like a delicate waterfall helped transform this look from classically beautiful to whimsically gorgeous. The flowers looked alive with every movement Erivo made, and they were the main reason we simply couldn't take our eyes off of her gown. Of course, the attention to detail in her look was exquisite, and the subtle nod to Elphaba with the green-dipped hemline certainly didn't go unnoticed.

Erivo's dress hails from Vivienne Westwood, and it was clearly inspired by the late designer's Spring/Summer 1997 collection, which also featured a similar white ballgown with flowers cascading over its skirt. With the nostalgic '90s aspect of the look, there's no doubt that Erivo's gown will only fuel the growing floral wedding dress trend. In fact, 3D florals have already made waves in bridal fashion, with designers like Ines Di Santo and Monique Lhuillier embracing the trend, but Erivo's dreamy interpretation is bound to result in an even bigger moment for fun, colorful flower embellishments on classic bridal gowns. After all, who wouldn't want to become their own bouquet?
Ultimately, this is the perfect choice for any spring or summer wedding, and if you're like us, you'll want to still hold a bouquet even with the dress' floral elements. The more flower power, the better.

Now, unlike Cynthia Erivo, Miley Cyrus' 2025 Oscars looks had heads turning for all the wrong reasons.
