What Happened To Alanna's Warder In The Wheel Of Time
Notable Wheel of Time book differences explained.
Includes SPOILERS for The Wheel of Time TV series through season 3, episode 1 and The Wheel of Time book series, which could influence the show's events.
Alanna's Warder suffered a surprising fate in The Wheel of Time's season 3 premiere, raising questions about his story in the books. The Wheel of Time TV series has been careful to set up the various groups of the Aes Sedai, similar to how Robert Jordan does in his novels. Liandrin is a member of the Red Ajah, characterized by their desire to prevent the misuse of the One Power by gentling any men who can channel and bond with no Warders. The Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah, on the other hand, are known for bonding multiple Warders.
The Green Ajah are represented in The Wheel of Time's cast by Priyanka Bose, who plays Alanna Mosvani. Throughout the series, she's championed by her two Warders, Maksim and Ihvon. Sadly, Ihvon met his fate in the opening battle sequence of The Wheel of Time season 3, which saw the Black Ajah rebel against the Amyrlin Seat and the White Tower. This is notable to book readers, who may have remembered his role in a critical storyline in The Shadow Rising, on which season 3 is adapted.
Ihvon Is Around For Much Longer In The Books
Ihvon first appears in The Great Hunt in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time novels, and he remains by Alanna's side through much of the series. In The Shadow Rising, Alanna and Ihvon are both present at the Two Rivers when Perrin Aybara returns to his home village to confront the Children of the Light, a narrative that was set up by season 2's ending. The conflict in the Two Rivers will likely be one of the primary narratives in season 3, making it all the more surprising that Ihvon won't be present.
Ihvon last appeared in Winter's Heart, book 9 of The Wheel of Time series, and is left with an unknown fate. He presumably died at some point off-screen. Alanna's other Warder, Maksim, is an amalgam of two characters in the novels: Owein, Alanna's other Warder in the books, and Makzim, another Warder who's only mentioned in Towers of Midnight.
RelatedThe Wheel Of Time Season 2 Recap: Everything You Need To Remember Ahead Of Season 3
The Wheel of Time returns on Amazon Prime Video for its third season. Here's everything you need to remember from season 2 for each main character.
Alanna's Other Warder Dies At The Two Rivers In The Shadow Rising
With the changes to Maksim's character in mind, his fate could end up changing, or it could result in a heartbreaking story for Alanna. In The Shadow Rising, Alanna's second Warder, Owein, is killed by White Cloaks at the Two Rivers. If this is Maksim's fate, it would be crushing for Alanna, who'd end the season left without any Warders. The bond between Warder and Aes Sedai is sacred and profound, and losing both in such a short period of time would drastically alter her role in The Wheel of Time.
