Tom Grennan and Biffy Clyro are both among the big names to have been added to the bill for Radio 1’s Big Weekend in 2025.
Bedford singer Grennan was announced on Monday as the headliner for the Friday night, the first of three days. The 29-year-old is set to release his fourth album this year and the announcement completes a tremendous arc as he began performing on the smallest BBC Introducing stage back in 2017.
“From bbc introducing to headlining @bbcradio1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool ???? can’t wait see you there x,” Grennan wrote on his Instagram page.
Confidence Man, Barry Can’t Swim, Nia Archives, Katy B and The Wombats are also among the wave of acts to have been announced for day one of the event.
Radio 1 is holding its annual three dayer from May 23-23 in Liverpool’s Sefton Park, which the station advertises as the start of the summer festival season.
James Hype is also on the bill for Friday, but will perform on the main stage, while Confidence Man is the headliner for the dance stage.
Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro have played the Big Weekend many times and are looking forward to being back on the main stage, where they will play just before Grennan.
Sam Fender, Blossoms, Lola Young, Wet Leg and BRITs Rising Star 2025 winner Myles Smith have all previously been announced for the Saturday and Sunday.
When is the BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend Festival?
The Big Weekend Festival will be held over three days from May 23 to 25, with 100,000 tickets up for grabs.
Presenter Greg James said this year’s festival would have some of “the biggest acts in the world”. One hundred performers are planned to perform over the weekend.
Where is the Big Weekend Festival?
The location of Radio 1's latest extravaganza is at Liverpool’s Sefton Park.
The festival’s location changes annually, with previous iterations in Dundee, Coventry, Luton and Middlesbrough.
Many took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their excitement for the weekend. “Radio 1 big weekend in Liverpool!?!? I used to pray for times like these,” one user said, while another claimed that the event should be “great for the city and local businesses”. One user pointed out that the festival falls on the same weekend that Liverpool FC could win the Premier League, which could cause “chaos”.
Not everyone was thrilled at the news. “Why is big weekend in Liverpool?” one user asked. “Ain’t it supposed to be in places that don’t usually have festivals near them...”
How can I get tickets?
Tickets will be available from 5pm on Friday, with priority given to those in the local area.
The BBC has said 34,500 General Admission tickets will be available per day, priced £33, plus £4.50 booking fee per ticket.
In addition, 1,500 VIP tickets will be available per day and will cost £95 (plus £5.70 booking fee per ticket) per day.
