Where you've seen Dina in The Last of Us before
The Last of Us season two has introduced a number of new characters to the hit HBO show
The second season of The Last of Us introduces a plethora of new characters for fans, including a fresh love interest.
There are also entirely new characters not seen in the game, such as Catherine O'Hara's Gail.
Viewers are eagerly anticipating the adaptation of several key roles from the sequel game, Last of Us Part II, in the popular HBO series.
Among these is Kaitlyn Dever's portrayal of Abby, and Jeffrey Wright returning to his role as Isaac. However, another pivotal character in the new season's narrative is Dina.
But who exactly is she? What part does she play and who portrays her in the series? Here's everything you need to know.
In the game, Dina is one of the younger inhabitants of Jackson. She regularly embarks on patrols with Ellie and other members, their duties encompassing eliminating lingering infected near the town and reporting back any safety concerns, reports the Mirror.
It is revealed throughout the game that she originally hails from New Mexico and is of Jewish descent.
At one point, the player stumbles upon an old Synagogue, prompting Dina to share that her ancestors survived both the Spanish Inquisition and the Holocaust. Like Ellie, she was orphaned at a young age, having to fend for herself since she was 10 years old.
As revealed in the first episode of season two, she was romantically involved with Jesse, but they had recently parted ways when viewers rejoin them. She also starts to develop a deeper relationship with Ellie after they share a kiss at the town's dance.
However, they face homophobic abuse before Joel intervenes in an attempt to protect Ellie. We won't reveal the events involving Dina later in the story here, but she is poised to become a significant ally for the show's main character.
In the HBO series, she is portrayed by Isabela Merced. The 23 year old was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but she identifies more as Peruvian than American and has shared that Spanish was her first language.
Her breakthrough role was the lead in the Nickelodeon series 100 Things to Do Before High School. She is also a singer and released her debut album in 2015.
For her earliest roles, she used the name Isabela Moner, with her final role under that name being Dora in the live-action adaptation of the popular children's show Dora the Explorer. She changed her stage name to Merced in honour of her late grandmother.
She has had significant roles in films such as Instant Family and Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado, earning high praise for her performances. Merced has also appeared in Madame Web and Alien: Romulus.
She is set to appear in the James Gunn directed Superman movie later this year as Hawkgirl.
The Last of Us season two airs Mondays at 9pm on Sky Atlantic and streaming on NOW.
