Which Side Is Peter On Now? The Night Agent Season 3 Mission Explained
Peter's new mission in The Night Agent season 3.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Night Agent season 2.In its second season, Netflix's hit action thriller The Night Agent set up what Peter's (Gabriel Basso) new mission will be in the third season of the show, but it's still unclear whose side he will be on. Following the success of The Night Agent season 1, Netflix renewed the show for a second season which sees Peter delve into his role as an official night agent. Like the first outing, The Night Agent season 2 features incredible action and an even better mystery for Peter to solve.
With the plot of Matthew Quirk's book completed in its entirety in season 1, the second season of the Night Agent TV series introduced new characters and a fresh storyline. In the finale of The Night Agent season 1, it isn't revealed what exactly Peter would be investigating as a night agent in the subsequent season. However, season 2 of The Night Agent leaves enough clues about what the storyline for season 3 will be, such as the returning characters and who the antagonist is.
One of the new characters introduced in The Night Agent season 2 is Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum). Monroe plays a significant role in the sophomore season as he is the intelligence broker who sells the Foxglove (a chemical weapons program) documents to Viktor Bala (Dikran Tulaine). For most of season 2, Peter tries to find Solomon (Berto Colon) and his boss because they are the ones who know exactly what's happening with Foxglove. When the two eventually meet, the Night Action agent gets an insight into who Monroe really is and the extent of his power.
RelatedThe Night Agent Season 2: Who Jacob Monroe Is & How He Was Involved In The Bangkok Mission
Jacob Monroe is a shadowy new villain introduced in The Night Agent season 2, with his connection to Peter's Bangkok mission kicking off the story.
After going against Catherine's (Amanda Warren) orders and practically swaying the presidential election, she gives Peter a chance to right his wrongs by being a double agent. Since Peter is now at Monroe's beck and call, he is the only one who can report what the intelligence broker is up to Catherine. The end of The Night Agent season 2 shows Peter agreeing to this deal to have his freedom and job back in the espionage organization. However, Peter being a double agent in The Night Agent season 3 might prove to be more challenging than he thinks.
Monroe Can Change The Fate Of Night Action
A flashback scene in The Night Agent season 2 shows Monroe meeting Hagan (Ward Horton) before he becomes a presidential candidate. Monroe offers to help Hagan, but the latter has to give him something in return. With Hagan now set to be the president in the upcoming season of the show, Monroe will have access to a lot of classified government information that he can sell to the highest bidder, including what Night Action is investigating.

Since Monroe will have access to all the files that pass through Hagan’s desk, it's integral that Night Action can't know what Catherine and Peter will be investigating because he is likely to find out. Like any intelligence broker worth his salt, Monroe probably has information on Hagan that he will use to get him to do anything he wants. If the intelligence broker were to find out that Night Action is keeping tabs on him, he could ask Hagan to dismantle the spy organization and the president would have no choice but to comply.
Peter Has To Decide Who He Is Loyal To In The Night Agent Season 3
The season finale of The Night Agent season 2 sees Peter turn himself in after stopping the attack on the United Nations. While his situation isn't exactly the same as his father's, he still finds himself in the same position as Catherine asked him to spy on Monroe. Peter shows how important Rose (Luciane Buchanan) is to him by releasing Solomon and doing what Monroe requests, even if it means going against Catherine's orders and what is best for Night Action.
Now that Peter is between a rock and a hard place, the question still remains about who he is really loyal to.
Because of this, Monroe knows that Rose is Peter's weakness, and he will undoubtedly use that to his advantage whenever he needs to acquire intelligence that no one else, but Peter, can procure for him. Now that Peter is between a rock and a hard place, the question still remains about who he is really loyal to. It's clear he loves Rose and will do anything to protect her, so he is likely going to be a double agent in The Night Agent season 3. But whether he will stick to his new role is something that he has to decide.
