The White Lotus season three teased in trailer
Warning - this article contains major spoilers for The White Lotus' season 3 finale
The third season of The White Lotus concluded this Sunday (6th April) on HBO and Monday on Sky, with thousands of dedicated fans already tuning in.
As more viewers catch up on Mike White's critically acclaimed satirical drama, a glaring inconsistency in this week's season finale, Amor Fati, has become apparent - a key plot point doesn't make sense.
In the latest series, a daring revenge plot unfolds as Rick Hatchett (portrayed by Walton Goggins) journeys to the White Lotus resort in Thailand with his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood).
However, he secretly plans a detour to Bangkok to rendezvous with his friend Frank (Sam Rockwell) to confront the man alleged to have murdered his father, Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn).

After arranging a meeting with Jim and his wife, the resort's owner and former actress Sritala (Lek Patravadi), under the guise of collaborating on a film, Rick brandishes a gun at Jim before returning to the hotel.
This is where the situation begins to spiral out of control as Rick hadn't anticipated Jim and Sritala following him back to the hotel. When Jim threatens him to leave the resort, Rick retaliates by seizing Jim's gun and shooting him dead.
A grief-stricken Sritala then discloses that Jim was actually Rick's father, leading to a shootout and her instructing security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) to eliminate her husband's murderer.
The finale of The White Lotus culminated in a tragic and explosive climax that left viewers stunned, yet some fans have been left perplexed by Rick's decision to return to the resort, despite being aware that Sritala and Jim might be present.
A Reddit user raised their concern in a post, questioning Rick's motives with a healthy dose of sarcasm: "Yeah let's go back to the hotel owned by the guy I just pushed over in his home."

In response, another user chimed in, echoing the confusion: "THIS! That made no sense to me. Uh, time to checkout!"
Several others shared the same sentiment, one viewer expressing their disbelief: "The fact that he spent the night too lmao. Like I get going to grab Chelsea, but finishing out your stay? Really?" Another fan described Rick's actions as "Truly bizarre," adding, "What gave him that confidence? He knows Hollinger has hella guards."
And another added: "That part doesn't make much sense tbh."
The discussion extended to X (formerly Twitter), where fans mirrored these sentiments. One user posted, "Rick staying at the hotel made no sense and him finding out it was his father was meh."
Another echoed this sentiment, stating, "It really makes no sense that Rick and Chelsea were even still at the hotel tbh."

However, a different viewpoint emerged from another Redditor, who pointed out: "It's in line with going to the same hotel chain where a man met and murdered his wife."
This comment suggests that Rick's actions, though seemingly irrational, might align with the show's broader themes and precedents. Some fans agreed that the twist was consistent with Rick's persona, with one viewer remarking: "Shows how self absorbed he was in his revenge, it fits that it didn't even cross his mind."
