As more viewers catch up on Mike White's critically acclaimed satirical drama, one thing about this week's season finale, Amor Fati, has become clear - a significant plot point doesn't quite add up.
In this year's instalment, a daring revenge plot unfolds as Rick Hatchett (portrayed by Walton Goggins) travels to the White Lotus resort in Thailand with his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood).
However, unbeknownst to her, he was secretly planning a trip to Bangkok to meet his friend Frank (Sam Rockwell) and confront the man who allegedly murdered his father, Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn), reports the Mirror US.
â
After arranging a meeting with Jim and his wife, the resort's owner and former actress Sritala (Lek Patravadi), under the false pretence of collaborating on a film, Rick threatens Jim with a gun before returning to the hotel.
This is where things start to spiral out of control as Rick hadn't anticipated Jim and Sritala following him back to the hotel. When Jim threatens him to leave the resort, Rick retaliates by grabbing Jim's gun and shooting him dead.
â
A grief-stricken Sritala then discloses that Jim was actually Rick's father, leading to a shootout and her instructing security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) to eliminate her husband's murderer.
In a shocking turn of events on the latest White Lotus finale, Chelsea becomes an unintended victim and is killed amidst the chaos, leading Gaitok to bravely take down Rick as he attempts to save his gravely injured girlfriend.
However, the episode has left viewers scratching their heads over Rick's decision to return to the resort, given the likelihood of encountering Sritala and Jim. Fans have taken to social media to voice their confusion and frustration.
â
On Reddit, one fan sarcastically posted: "Yeah let's go back to the hotel owned by the guy I just pushed over in his home."
Another chimed in with disbelief: "THIS! That made no sense to me. Uh, time to checkout!" A third viewer expressed amusement at Rick's actions: "The fact that he spent the night too lmao. Like I get going to grab Chelsea, but finishing out your stay? Really?"
Others joined the conversation, with comments like "Truly bizarre. What gave him that confidence? He knows Hollinger has hella guards."
â
Further scepticism was echoed with remarks such as "That part doesn't make much sense tbh."
The debate extended to X (formerly Twitter), where fans continued to question the plot, with tweets like "Rick staying at the hotel made no sense and him finding out it was his father was meh."

And "It really makes no sense that Rick and Chelsea were even still at the hotel tbh."
Yet, a counterpoint was raised by another Redditor who suggested that Rick's actions were consistent with the show's theme of characters making questionable decisions: "It's in line with going to the same hotel chain where a man met and murdered his wife."
â
While some viewers reasoned that the outcome matched with Rick's on-screen persona, as one fan pointed out: "Shows how self absorbed he was in his revenge, it fits that it didn't even cross his mind."
