Steel-faced rancher Staten is being pressured into selling his land to an oil company following the death of his son, Randall. Next door neighbor Quinn has had a thing for him for years, but is growing tired of being kept waiting.
Quinn decides to start seeing Staten’s arch-rival Davis instead, causing even more division in the town. Elsewhere, drifter Yancy rocks up in town to work for Cap, striking up a romance with local girl Ellie. But, as fans quickly learn, Yancy’s got a nasty past he’s kept a secret.
Ransom Canyon’s ending is one you’ll never see coming, but it’s the dedication that follows straight after that’s got fans curious. Turns out, Lori Romero was a vital part of how the show came to be.
Netflix’s Ransom Canyon dedicated to make-up artistRansom Canyon’s “In loving memory of Lori Romero” dedication refers to one of the show’s make-up artists, who died while production was still officially underway. Her death on January 1, 2025, was publicly announced on February 3.
Instagram/IATSE Local 480On Instagram, a dedication reads, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Local 480 member, Lori Romero, who passed away recently. Lori, a native and lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, was born on August 10, 1963. Lori was a dedicated member for nine years, specializing in high-quality make-up and hair, and her talent and passion were a vital part of the movie industry. Her film family was everything to her.
“Known for her infectious laughter and her willingness to help anyone in need, Lori was everyone’s best friend. She will always be remembered for her big heart and the joy she brought to those around her.”

A memorial service was planned for January 18 at New Beginnings Church of God in Albuquerque. Given this is where Ransom Canyon was actually filmed (not Texas), the make-up artist was an essential part of the behind-the-scenes crew. Romero is survived by her son, Julian Anzures, sister, Annette, and brother-in-law, Martin Costanza.
Prior to her work on Ransom Canyon, Romero was known for work on The Harder They Fall, Deadly Illusions, T@gged, The Best Man, End of the Road, Finch, and The Marksman. She had also been working on the upcoming Coyote vs. Acme.
