Why Ellen Pompeo Won't Let Her Daughter Watch Her 'Grey's Anatomy' "Underwear" Scenes
Ellen Pompeo shared that she doesn't let her younger daughter watch 'Grey's Anatomy' because of shots of her in her "underwear".
Ellen Pompeo has starred in Grey's Anatomy for two decades—and although she couldn't be more proud of the show, she still isn't ready to let her younger daughter watch it. Pompeo is mother to Stella Luna, 15, Sienna May, 10, and Eli Christopher, 8, and, although Stella has seen the show, Sienna still isn't allowed, purely because of the subject matter.

"Now my 10-year-old wants to see it, which, she’s not ready, but a lot of kids in her class have seen it," she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. "I don’t want my daughter to see me in my underwear on television just yet, but all her classmates have. That makes for great conversation at pick up."
She added, "No judgement, on other parents who do let their kids watch the show."

Pompeo also opened up about a particularly challenging sex scene from the hit medical drama during an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. In fact, even she hasn't watched this specific clip. "The scene was so uncomfortable and awkward," she said of a season 2 moment with T.R. Knight's George O'Malley. The two were close friends in real life, making the whole thing "awkward." They both ended up crying real tears while filming.
"He didn’t want to do that, I didn’t want to do it," she continued. "When we filmed it, it was so bad. And then the network said there was too much thrusting.”

Pompeo's recent interview appearances are part of her press tour for Good American Family, the new Hulu drama series, in which the actress plays Kristine, a woman who adopts a girl with dwarfism and later accuses her of lying about her age. The series is based on the true story of Natalia Grace, in which a couple of adoptive parents became convinced their daughter was an adult posing as a child.
As Pompeo explained to the Los Angeles Times, she was eager to take on the role as it marked a real departure from her work in Grey's Anatomy. “It took enormous courage and bravery on all their parts and taking a chance on me. It’s a real chance,” she said. “I haven’t done anything in 20 years—I could have effed this up majorly.”
