Why Melania Trump almost didn't wear her much-discussed Inauguration accessory
Melania wore one of the most striking looks at today's Inauguration
Melania Trump made one of the most impactful entrances on Inauguration Day. The First Lady wore a navy double-breasted coat topped by a wide-brimmed hat designed by Eric Javits. The designer revealed that the hat almost didn't make it to the finished look.Â
Melania Trump at Donald Trump's Presidential InaugurationIn an interview with WWD, Javits revealed that the hat was shipped from Miami to DC and that it âarrived all crushed."Â
âIt looked like it had been sitting in snow drifts for about a week,â he said.Â
âObviously, I had to scramble to redo it. It couldnât really be repaired, because of the construction of it.â
Javits revealed that, for a moment, he didn't know if his work would be included in Melania's final look. Ultimately, her designer HervĂŠ Pierre came in person to pick up the accessory. Â
âHe had a driver, and HervĂŠ took it back to her by hand to minimize any other disasters that could possibly happen,â said Javits. âNo other hands touched, nor did any other eyes see the hat, prior to HervĂŠ and the first lady receiving it.â
