Wrexham stars 'given advice' by Channing Tatum as Phil Parkinson looks on
Channing Tatum made a surprise appearance in the Wrexham changing room as the Hollywood star showed off his dance moves ahead of Super Bowl LIX in a new advert
Wrexham players found themselves utterly gobsmacked when Hollywood actor Channing Tatum unexpectedly invaded their changing room during a side-splitting Super Bowl commercial being shown on FOX.
The League One club's co-owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, called upon the Magic Mike star to give their team some lessons on how to celebrate. In the ad, Tatum assumes the role of a dance instructor for Wrexham greats like Paul Mullin and Elliot Lee, demonstrating a choreographed number backed by 'Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)' by C+C Music Factory.
At the beginning of the skit, Tatum makes an entrance into the changing room, declaring that the owners are far from thrilled with the team's existing goal celebrations. Brandishing a boombox, he directs the players through fresh celebration moves, eliciting a mixture of awe and uncertainty until they ultimately concede and take part, prompting frustration from Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.
The entertaining segment is a plug for Wrexham’s official stadium sponsor, SToK Cold Brew Coffee, with creative input from Reynolds' firm, Maximum Effort. The filming was timed to coincide with Tatum's recent visit to North Wales with the Deadpool star to watch the Red Dragons play.
Their trip in December included a casual stop at The Fat Boar pub in Wrexham, where they were joined by actor Brandon Sklenar. Reynolds grabbed the mic to pass on festive greetings to punters and generously offered to buy them all a drink.
Addressing the crowd, Reynolds said: "If I don't come visit each and everyone of you tonight in your homes, I just want to say happy holidays."

It was fun showing the lads how it's done just in time for the biggest American football celebration."
This marks the second consecutive year that the coffee brand and Wrexham have collaborated on a Super Bowl commercial. Last year featured Welsh acting legend Sir Anthony Hopkins in a memorable performance as Wrexham's mascot, Wrex the Dragon.
Commenting on the new comedic spot, Reynolds and McElhenney said: "We're so happy that three of the stars of Deadpool and Wolverine were able to work together again to bring this ad to life for our incredible Wrexham sponsor, SToK Cold Brew Coffee. We will take no further questions related to Rob's actual screen time."
Brittney Polka, vice president at Danone North America, which owns SToK, said: "If athletes have shown us anything this year, it's the art of top-notch football celebration dances – and those kinds of moves require a bold brew. Seeing Channing boldly turn the SToK Cae Ras locker room into his personal stage demonstrates exactly what our partnership with Wrexham AFC is all about."
The advert is set to be broadcast during the Super Bowl livestream on FOX Sports and via the NFL's official app. Sunday will see the Kansas City Chiefs go up against the Philadelphia Eagles.
