Wynne Evans receives BBC warning after sexual remark as host 'hanging onto job'
Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has been issued with a warning by the BBC after he was caught making a sexual remark about a co-star on the Strictly tour
Strictly star Wynne Evans has received a warning from the BBC after making an inappropriate sexual comment about a co-star during the Strictly Live Tour.
The 52 year old Go Compare advert star is currently performing with professional dancer Katya Jones on the tour. During a photocall in Birmingham with fellow cast members JB Gill, Montell Douglas, Shayne Ward and Jamie Borthwick, Evans made a crude joke as Janette Manrara approached.
Evans has since apologised, stating: "My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise."
A BBC spokesperson confirmed they have addressed the issue with the opera singer, stating they "do not tolerate such behaviour". The tour producers have also issued him with a warning.
A representative for the Strictly live tour and BBC Studios said: "We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints. We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour."
As the cast gathered for a photo, Evans was recorded making an inappropriate sexual comment to Janette as she joined the group. He sang out: "Go Compare," before adding: "Not too close to Jamie."
He then used the highly offensive term "spit roast" in reference to a crude sexual act in a video published by Daily Mail.
Janette's spokeswoman said she had been "unaware of this comment."
Now, it is claimed he has been left "hanging onto" his BBC radio job after the rude remark. PR experts warned the BBC could be forced to "sever ties" with the broadcaster completely.
Brand and culture expert Nick Ede told MailOnline: "I think the BBC will have to tread very carefully with Wynne as his controversial and lewd comments will soon outweigh his popularity and the BBC won't tolerate this anymore.
"He will hanging on to his position but all eyes will be on him and if he makes another negative move the BBC may have to sever their ties with him."
Wynne has been forced to take a step back from the tour in Glasgow due to an ankle injury, sharing images of his bruised limb on Instagram.
In a heartfelt update on Saturday evening, he expressed optimism about his recovery: "Ankle's getting a bit better, it was great to be able to sing in Glasgow tonight, even if I couldn't dance, hopefully back tomorrow. But watch this space, I'll let you know in the morning. See how the swelling goes down, and all that kind of stuff, thanks for all the lovely messages, amazing."
During his stint on Strictly, Evans faced criticism after what appeared to be an inappropriate "grope" of his dance partner Katya. The 52 year old Welsh opera singer was seen placing his hand on Katya's waist before it seemed to inch towards her stomach.
A visibly unimpressed Katya seemed to brush his hand away as they stood together.
While the incident sparked outrage among viewers, with accusations of Evans's behaviour being inappropriate, the duo dismissed the controversy as a "silly inside joke".
The furore over the incident became a focal point during their appearance on the spin-off show It Takes Two, where they aimed to address and defuse the situation and issued an apology.
