Bruce Willis has been ‘brave’ in the face of his advancing dementia, his family have said, as Hollywood continues to pay tribute to the actor, who has been suffering from the illness
Actor Bruce Willis, famed for his roles as tough-as-nails cops like Die Hard’s John McClane, paid tribute to the real-life heroes who protected Hollywood during the Los Angeles wildfires.
Whenever he spotted a first responder, Bruce never missed the chance to offer a heartfelt handshake and a ‘Thank you for your service,'” wrote Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming, on Instagram, sharing a series of snaps of the superstar greeting LAPD officers during an unexpected visit. “Yesterday was no different.”
However, not every day is the same in Bruce’s personal life. In 2022, Bruce’s family announced his retirement from acting following his diagnosis with aphasia, a neurological disorder that impairs communication abilities. The Pulp Fiction star’s condition has since developed into a form of dementia called frontotemporal dementia. “Though his spirit is still there, he’s not the same Bruce anymore,” a source told Life and Style.
“He’s being brave, but life is also scary for him at times. The public doesn’t see the dark side of his illness. Fortunately, he has his family to support him through what they’ve come to accept as his final chapter,” reports the Mirror US
While some days are better than others for Bruce, a “typical day” for the award-winning actor might involve waking up, spending time with his girls and wife, having breakfast, and enjoying time at home. “Maybe one of his buddies might come over,” the source added to Life and Style.

A source close to the family revealed that after their gatherings, Bruce would indulge in simple pleasures: “He may not be living his life on movie sets anymore, but he still enjoys seeing his community.”
The Willis clan is gradually adjusting to the tough reality of Bruce’s health woes. Emma, Bruce’s devoted wife, has been transparent about their daughters Mabel and Evelyn growing accustomed to their father’s struggles, stating that they’ve “grown up with Bruce declining over the years. I’m not trying to shield them from it.”
