Bruce Willis' wife has shared an emotive plea following the tragic deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa.
The late actor, 95, was found dead in his New Mexico home on February 26, after suffering from a combination of severe heart disease, high blood pressure and advanced Alzheimer’s disease. Authorities believe the star may have been alone for days in the home with his dead wife, 65, Betsy, who passed away from rare disease, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.
Now, Emma Heming Willis has issued a message as she opened up on life caring for her Die Hard actor husband, who has been diagnosed with aphasia and later frontotemporal dementia (FTD). She insisted there is "some learning" to take from the tragic deaths of Gene and Betsy.
"So this is not something I would normally comment on, but I do really believe that there is some learning in this story, in regards to this tragic passing of Mr. and Mrs. Hackman," she said on Instagram. "It’s just made me think of this broader story, and that is that caregivers need care too, and that they are vital, and that it is so important that we show up for them so that they can continue to show up for their person."

WireImage)Emma continued: "I think there’s this common misconception that caregivers, they got it figured out, they got it covered, they’re good. I don’t subscribe to that. I think that we need to be showing up for them so that they can continue to show up for their person." Her post was captioned: "Caregivers need care too. Period. Full stop."
Bruce stepped away from Hollywood in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, which the NHS says is when a person has difficulty with their language or speech. A year later, the actor's family shared the sad news that his illness had "progressed" and he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Emma has been married to the star for 17 years and opened up on caring for her husband back in 2023. In an appearance on Today, she explained: "What I'm learning is that dementia is hard. It's hard on the person diagnosed. It's also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce or myself or our girls. And when they say that this is a ‘family disease,’ it really is."
The couple share two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn. Bruce is also father to three daughters with ex-wife, Demi Moore: Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. Demi and Bruce remained a strong family unit despite their divorce, and she has also been on hand to offer support amid his condition.
The actress previously said it is important for her to be in the "present" when she is with Bruce so they can enjoy their time together. Speaking on CBS Sunday Morning in September she said: "The important thing is just to meet him where he's at, as opposed to being attached to who he was, how he was. Because, again, that only just puts you in a place of loss versus being in the present, meeting him where he's at, and finding the joy and the loving of just all that is where he is."
