BBC Comic Relief viewers declared "we are so back" after the stars of Strictly Come Dancing made a special appearance during the televised fundraiser.

After first airing in 1985, the annual Comic Relief celebrated its 40th year after Sir Lenny Henry and Richard Curtis formed the idea. Comic Relief is designed to raise money to support those at risk of domestic abuse and families affected by conflict and climate change.

In 1988, the first Comic Relief saw 30 million people tune in to watch Blackadder - the Cavalier Years and the Young Ones on University Challenge. They raised a huge £15 million for their first televised fundraiser.

Last year it was Lenny Henry's final time as the host of Comic Relief, after nearly four decades of presenting. The public helped to raise £38,631,548, and the night of TV saw some extra special moments for Sir Lenny throughout the course of the night.

For the 40th anniversary of Comic Relief, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Joel Dommett, Alison Hammond, Rylan Clark, and Alesha Dixon are hosting the event over on BBC. Then later on in the night, at around 10pm, Tom Allen and AJ Odudu will be taking over.

One of the best parts of the fundraiser are the comedy sketches aimed to make people laugh, and thus donate. The Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas performed their Oasis brothers sketch to celebrate the reunion.

However, the Strictly Come Dancing sketch took viewers by surprise as they enjoyed every last second of the instalment.

In an observational style documentary, the sketch follows the journey of Melissa and Johnny as they try and become the new Strictly professionals.

But in a sad twist of fate, both their celebrity partners mysteriously pull out of the next series at the last minute, leaving Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman to hatch a cunning plan.

After the sketch, Russel Kane and Rachel Parris took to the stage with the Strictly professionals as they performed an epic dance routine that scored four tens from the judges.
