Denise Welch returns to Loose Women after 'horrendous' depressive episode
Denise Welch returned to the Loose Women panel after ending up in hospital with an infection
Denise Welch returned to Loose Women on Tuesday (11th February) for her first show of 2025 after taking time away from the ITV show while dealing with depression.
Ruth Langsford kicked off the episode with giving Denise a warm welcome and addressed her return: "We haven't seen her for a few months, so it's welcome back to Denise" as the crowd erupted with applause.
The panel host continued: "Last time you were here, you explained you'd been going through another bad patch with your mental health. You call it the 'unwelcome visitor'."
Denise then spoke candidly about her experience with depression that she revealed started "nearly 36 years ago" after she had her first child and "suffered postnatal depression."
She continued: "Sadly for me that opened a tendency to clinical depressive episodes over that time. For five years, in September 2019, I hadn't had a breakdown. That is what we used to call it. We call it an episode now. The longest I have ever gone.
"I had sort of convinced myself that maybe something that happened when I gave birth had righted itself post menopause. There are two kinds, one is reactive so you are triggered by something, some trauma that brings on an episode of severe depression"
"The other one is where chemically it just happens and you have no idea. September 2019 I was driving up North, and I got a metallic taste in my mouth which heralds the onset of a period of depression. I can be in a very happy situation where it happens."

After a period of "feeling ok", Denise opened up about her most recent depressive episode hitting her out of the blue. She shared: "November comes along I felt OK, I had a lot of jobs. The stalker I had was being released from jail, I was going to be away from home doing a pantomime for the first time in 12 years. I was near where I live and I felt this happen to me.
"I drove by mistake up a one-way street, there were two people shouting at me. Normally you would shout back, and I didn't know what to do."
The star continued: "All these horrendous feelings I hadn't had for a long time, I couldn't remember how to get home. I knew it was the start of something, I got back to my husband and I said 'it's here'".
Speaking to the panel, Denise confessed that "it was so dark so quickly" and she started to suffer from panic attacks after not having anxiety for so long.
She was due to perform as Captain Hook in the Peter Pan pantomime as she spoke about how it was a "huge responsibility", but just three days into performing Denise revealed: "I collapsed in the foyer of the hotel I was staying in, and I got back to the room and I said to my agent 'you have got to pull me out'."
The TV personality went onto admit she was "terrified of the reaction" she'd get after a previous episode of her pulling out of a pantomime caused a "detrimental" reaction from the press as one outlet had said she "let down thousands of fans".

She finished her conversation b y adding: "I am laughing about it now because I have made a recovery from this episode." Denise then reflected on her recent trip to the Caribbean, where things turned momentarily sour after she enjoyed her break.
Denise revealed: "I got rushed into hospital with acute peritonitis, so I've been in the hospital on a drip for a bloody week. They didn't have to do surgery they got it with antibiotics."
Ruth embraced the star and thanked her for being so vulnerable on air, referencing the "talkathon" that Loose Women did in order to raise money for mental health services.
