Emmerdale viewers are buzzing with speculation about the return of a beloved character, convinced she "faked her own death".

Viv Hope, brought to life by Deena Payne, burst onto the scene in 1993 and quickly cemented her place as a fan favourite. A veritable icon of the soap opera genre, Viv starred in an impressive 2,037 episodes.

Her time in Emmerdale was peppered with significant story arcs, from stints in jail to headline-grabbing affairs, ensuring her stay was saturated with intrigue.

Well-known for her marriage to Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw), Viv had two children, Cathy (Gabrielle Dowling) and Heath (Sebastian Dowling) Hope, who further tied her to the fabric of the show.

Yet, in a dramatic turn of events, after 18 years on the soap, Viv met a tragic end in 2011. Longtime fans will remember her demise in the devastating Post Office explosion, which also took the life of Terry Woods (Billy Hartman), reports Leicestershire Live.

However, fans are now abuzz with theories that Viv could make an astonishing return, suggesting she "faked her death". This theory sparked intense discussion on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, where one user wrote: "Soaps love to have characters miraculously survive their deaths. So, who do you think it's possible for them to bring back, and how could they do it?".

Commenters were quick to deliberate over the possibility, tying Viv's potential deception to her ex-husband Reg Dawson's (Niven Boyd) shady history.

Reg, Viv's former spouse and Scott Windsor's father (Toby Cockerell: Ben Freeman), deserted both mother and child early in Scott's life. He made his Emmerdale entrance in May 1994 only to meet his own grim fate later that year.

One eagle-eyed viewer noted the absence of a key event, saying: "Viv! Her body was sent to London for Kelly, Scott and Donna to bury, so we never actually saw her funeral...," highlighting a gap in the storyline.

Another concurred, remarking on the oddity: "I did think it was strange that her funeral wasn't shown on screen." Speculation grew among fans, with one suggesting a dramatic twist: "Yes to Viv! Maybe she faked her death because Reg Dawson's old gangster mates found out about some cash he stashed away and wanted to come after her."

This prompted another fan to endorse the idea enthusiastically: "This is an excellent theory!"
