LBC's Nick Ferrari asks Ed Miliband 'why should we believe you' in scathing row
LBC broadcaster Nick Ferrari engaged in a blistering row with Labour's Ed Miliband as he questioned rising energy bills across the country.
LBC host Nick Ferrari certainly didnât hold back any punches as he grilled Ed Miliband about the rise in energy bills. During Fridayâs instalment of his morning radio show, the 66-year-old welcomed the Secretary State of Energy and Climate Change onto the show to discuss the recent increase in charges.
The broadcaster wasted no time in asking the politician why bills are still rising despite Labourâs pre-electoral promise that they would go down by ÂŁ300 by 2030. He pointed out: âYou did promise the listeners and the electorate that energy bills would be cut by ÂŁ300. The reality for most people is theyâve gone up by about ÂŁ110, ÂŁ111.
âPolitely, why should my listeners believe a word you say?â he chuckled. The MP began to explain the decision behind the rises, insisting that Labour have a âlong-term plan for 2030â before the presenter cut him off.
He argued: âBut youâve got it the wrong way around Mr Miliband. The bills are going up.â Ed continued: â- [We want] Clean, home-grown power to cut bills by up to ÂŁ300. Hereâs why bills have gone up: because of our dependence on fossil fuels.
âHereâs the thing, Nick, every solar panel we put up, every wind turbine â I know youâre not a great fan of the wind turbines â but ever wind turbine we erect, every piece of grid we build makes us more secure and gives us that clean home-grown energy.
âThere is only one answer to get off that dependence, to get off that rollercoaster, and that is the clean power mission of the government and maybe it will even convert you to wind turbines.â
Nick sceptically asked: âAnd you still nail your colours to the mast of that ÂŁ300 cut?â to which the MP insisted: âAbsolutely, up to ÂŁ300 by 2030. Itâs what we said at the election, and we continue to stand by it.â
Despite the politicianâs confidence, listeners were less than convinced by his comments on the show. Flooding to X â formerly known as Twitter â fans shared their suspicions online.
One user argued: âBills will keep going up, all costs will keep going up, net zero must go, the extremists agenda wrecked German economy, it will destroy ours, only jobs it created are outside of this countryâ.
Another echoed: âWe cannot afford to let this lunatic run our energy for another 4.5 years to see whether he cuts energy bills by ÂŁ300 in 2030! Labour is the party of mendacity!â
A third pointed out: "Yeah it will go down by ÂŁ300 by 2030, but they will have risen by ÂŁ600 by then too!! What a joke! But of course posh boy here won't notice the difference, he probably couldn't tell you what any of his utility bills amount to currently! Thanks Labour, great job [applause emoji]."
