Naomi Watts Wore the Comfy Cool-Girl Shoes Practically Every Celebrity Owns
Look of the Day for March 25, 2025 features Naomi Watts in a spring-perfect look that includes cropped leather pants, a simple black coat, and beige loafers while walking around New York City. Shop the comfy, cool-girl shoes from Sam Edelman, Vionic, Franco Sarto, and more.
I own a lot of shoes. More specifically, I own a lot of sneakers, ballet flats, and kitten heel slingbacks (specific, I know). If you walk into my apartment, you’ll be able to recognize this pretty quickly—small NYC apartment plus little closet space equals shoes as artwork on full display! But, one style that I don’t really own (though am now considering seeing the sheer number of celebs who’ve worn it in recent weeks) is a pair of comfy loafers.

Naomi Watts was the latest A-lister to step out in the low-key cool comfort shoe while out in the Big Apple. For the outing, the actress wore an outfit that struck the perfect balance between comfort and elegance; up top, she wore a billowy silk turtleneck blouse, which she styled with a bold-shouldered, structured, mid-length blazer coat that’s an ideal in-between top layer. She also wore cropped leather pants and, last but certainly not least, a pair of loafers with cool hardware detailing.

Loafers are sometimes referred to as a “dad” shoe—or maybe that’s just in my mind. Regardless, the closed-toe, slip-on style shoe certainly reads a bit more like the smart, functional footwear a dad would wear. But, given the appeal of these so-called “dad” shoes and a move toward more comfy styles, it makes sense that practically all of Hollywood is wearing them. Watts is just the latest—her pair is light brown with a thin, wooden sole, square-toe front, and horsebit hardware that gives them a slightly modern touch.
Loafers are obviously comfortable; the low-to-the-ground shoe has a secure, close-toe front, which makes it ideal for the transitional season, not to mention a sensible sole (oftentimes with added cushioning and support) that's ideal for getting in those steps. And as any New Yorker in the springtime knows, the spring is when you easily hit 10,000-plus steps in a day.
Watts is the latest celeb to wear loafers, but she’s not the first nor the last. Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes, Hailey Bieber, and Gigi Hadid are just a few of the stylish Hollywood stars who’ve stepped out in the sensible shoe—and honestly, all this is reason enough to try them out. So, check out the loafers I’m eyeing, starting at $38.
