Amy Dowden discusses her recovery following cancer
Amy Dowden appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside her Strictly co-star Carlos Gu to promote their upcoming tour, which will showcase their ballet and dance skills to audiences across the UK.
During the interview with ITV hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls, Amy discussed her road to recovery after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2023 and receiving the all-clear in February 2024.
Amy had competed in the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing competition in November 2024, partnered with JLS star JB Gill, but her stint on the show took a toll on her health. She made it to week seven before complications arose, and she was left "heartbroken" after collapsing backstage and having to withdraw from the competition.
Strictly's Amy Dowden opened up on GMBSpeaking to Kate and Ed on GMB, Amy revealed that she had been "deluded" in thinking she would have fully recovered from chemotherapy before competing on Strictly. She reassured viewers that she was now feeling back to her normal self, but explained that she had only fully recovered a few months ago, after the competition had concluded.

ITV)Kate asked about Amy's health, to which the star responded: "I'm feeling so much stronger, fitter, especially in the last few months and since December I realised 'gosh, this is what it used to feel like'," reports Wales Online.
She continued: "I think every day after chemotherapy you start to feel better and stronger but especially in the last few months, i'm pushing myself with the tour and I really do feel like I've got my strength up, my stamina and my confidence back now."
Amy was candid, admitting she'd underestimated the recovery time, saying: "I think I was deluded on the road to recovery and how long it would take for my body to heal, physically and mentally but I am just so grateful to be in the place I am now and to be on the dance floor with my beautiful friend Carlos."
