Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted about many things Monday on X â but not about the plane crash.
After Canadians booed the American national anthem in Montreal on Saturday, he posted to X that he was âdamn proud of this country.â
However, it was noticed that after an American Delta Air Lines plane crashed on a snowy runway in Toronto, Trudeau didnât personally post anything.
Seemed strange.
Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre, who heads the Conservative Party, posted Monday afternoon on X: âIâm extremely concerned by the plane crash earlier this afternoon at Torontoâs Pearson airport. My thoughts are with the passengers and crew, and all those working to respond to this awful situation. Wishing a rapid recovery to all injured.â
Ontario Premier Doug Ford went to X to say: âIâm relieved there are no casualties after the incident at Toronto Pearson. Provincial officials are in contact with the airport and local authorities and will provide any help thatâs needed.â

While 21 people on the plane were hurt, thankfully all 80 on board survived this Miracle on the Snow at 2:15 p.m. on Family Day.
Trudeau, however, waited until 9:41 p.m. to retweet Transportation Minister Anita Anandâs X post which said, âI want to thank all the first responders and Toronto Pearson staff following todayâs incidentâ and âmy thoughts are with those injured and their families. We are supporting the ongoing investigation in any way we can.â

But there was no personal greeting of warmth from Canadaâs prime minister similar to what the other leaders offered. Trudeau was tweeting about other things instead of the crash â including one about Canada defeating Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off semi-final and captain Sidney Crosbyâs empty net goal, writing âCaptain Canada puts the game away.â
It garnered feedback.
âAre you serious?â one user tweeted in response. âA plane crash in Toronto and ⌠Trudeau is posting about a hockey game.â
Another X user replied: âA Canadian airplane (Bombardier CRJ900 ) crashed in the country you are still pretending to be the leader of, but carry on with the fun and games.â
That Trudeau didnât acknowledge that a flight coming in from the United States, with Americans and Canadians on board, had crashed at our biggest airport drew international media attention, including Englandâs Daily Mail with the headline âJustin Trudeau blasted for inappropriate social media response to Toronto plane crash.â

Is this all fair criticism? Or just partisan politics? Or is it Trudeau not doing his job?
So far Trudeau hasnât responded to requests for comment on why he didnât tweet about the plane crash or explained what it is he was proud of?
