The first trailer has arrived for A24âs new comedy movie Friendship, starring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson.
The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, and now itâs been revealed that director Andrew DeYoungâs feature-length motion picture is set to arrive in cinemas in May 2025.
In addition to starring I Think You Should Leaveâs Robinson and comedy icon Rudd, Friendshipâs cast includes Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra and Billy Bryk.
The filmâs synopsis, per Toronto International Film Festival, reads: âWhen an errant delivery pulls suburban dad Craig Waterman (Tim Robinson) into the orbit of his mysterious and charismatic new neighbour Austin Carmichael (Paul Rudd), a sweet bromance seems to blossom over an innocent evening of urban exploration, punk rock, and a mutual appreciation for paleolithic antiquities.â
It continues: âBut what should have been the start of a beautiful friendship is soon waylaid as Craigâs obsessive personality begins to alienate his new pal, subsequently inducing a spiral that threatens to upend Craigâs entire life.â
In the new trailer, the hilarious dynamic between Rudd and Robinsonâs characters already plays out, as Austin tells Craig, âLook, we had a couple of really nice hangs, but I think it best if we go our separate ways. I donât wish to continue this friendship.â
During an interview with Deadline last year, Robinson said of Friendship: âWhen Andy sent it to me, it was like the fastest Iâd ever read anything. It was just really funny and sad, in a lot of ways, and I liked how sad the character is.â
Similarly, Rudd was quickly drawn to the amusing nature of the script, adding, âI really love things that exist in that funny and sad world where everyoneâs trying to do their best, but they donât have the tools to do it well, whatever it is theyâre trying to accomplish. I think the characters are funny, relatable. I just thought it was funny.â
