Bong Joon Ho’s new film “Mickey 17” topped the North American box office in its opening weekend!
On March 9 local time, Variety reported that “Mickey 17”—which premiered on March 7 in the United States—was projected to earn a total of $19.1 million by the end of its opening weekend. Including global markets, the film has grossed a total of $53.3 million worldwide thus far.
With this opening, Bong Joon Ho has become the first Korean film director ever to reach No. 1 at the North American box office.
Outside of North America, “Mickey 17” has recorded the highest earnings in South Korea (where it was released on February 28 and grossed $9 million in its first week), followed by France ($2.9 million thus far) and the United Kingdom ($2.7 million).
